I'm having a bad autumn for low level lurgy. Seems I have an incipient infection hanging in the background and all I have to do is get tired or cold and it rears back up again with sore glands, achiness and general meh.
My life revolves around managing tiredness (work, family, 2nd job training, racing) and 2nd job and riding involve getting cold at this time of year so I'm really keen to try and boost my immune system otherwise I'm either going to be skint, ill, unfit or all.
I eat well, have a lot of fresh fruit and don't drink or smoke
sounds like you need a week of early nights.
A week off the bike, sufficient sleep and healthy eating.
Wash your hands more often.
Do some googling on gut flora/microbiome, gut flora has being shown in studies to play a critical role in a healthy immune system. I take shiitake, Reishi and Cordycep mushroom extracts as they have been proven to be beneficial.
Sleep and healthy eating.
And by the sound of it, a lifestyle change.
Do less?
Wash your hands as often as you can, don't eat communal biscuits in a meeting and take vitamin d from October to March.
Works for me. Not had a cold in 2 years and I used to get 2-3 each year.
I'll probably get one next week now...
Sufficient rest and calorie intake are a good starting point.
Then the obvious answer that if infection comes back when tired/cold then don't get tired/cold.
Also, you realise that glands, achiness and meh are all symptoms of overtraining/underrecovery and may not be an infection at all?
I'm managing about 4-6hrs a week after Sept off. CTL 40 down from 80 odd so I'might not overt rained. Just trying to do too much I suppose.
