Has anyone here ever imported a frame from the US? I am considering ordering a custom frame from a renound US framebuilder, but I was warned that duty could be high. The frame would be worth 3000$ or 1900 quid, does anyone know what the import duty will be? standard vat 17.5%.

Ta.

I bought a Ridley Dean costing $2200 ish and then got stung a whopping £279 over here 😥

Still, overall i paid £1700 and they retail @ £2600 over here 😯

as above (price shipping import and vat) and probably a handling charge too, about £12.

it's some times cheaper to fly over for a weekend and walk it thru customs. if stopped be prepared to pay the duty if you're not stopped... not that i have done this or condone it 😉

Friend of mine did that with a Santa Cruz, went to the factory, got a cheap frame, got asked at customs in the UK and said it was a warranty replacement and was waved straight through. I don't suppose a customs guy would know what the value was anyway and would ask to see a receipt. I'm sure you could get one.....
