Thinking about heading down to see the family and take in the 34 mile course while I'm at it. Anyone done it before? Anyone doing it this year? What's the terrain like compared to, say, the Pentlands/Ochils/Glentress?

Most of it is wide and very rocky, not many corners.

Is it gnarly though?
100mm full-susser or something a little less precious?

Depends what you mean by less precious 🙂 if its a rigid, used the full sus, if its a pitch or something like that, take that 🙂

Is the heart foundation thing?

the website says £15 entry, can you turn up on the day and do it? or do you need to register first?

It's the BHF thing yes. £20 on the day. Starts at Hope Valley College from 9:30 onwards I think. I'm registering on the day cos there's an inkling of a sliver of a chance that I might be working instead.

And by less precious, I mean less carbon-fibre-frame-made-by-a-company-that-went-bankrupt-then-started-up-again-but-won't-honour-warranties-from-the-first-time-around-even-though-it's-the-same-bloody-frame-and-the-same-bloody-people. Gits.

Don't you have to raise a £100 sponsorship to do the BHF events?
Can you just pay the £15 and ride without being hassled for more money?
Everybody I know is sick of contributing to my riding enjoyment by donating to various good causes.

there isn't any minimum sponsorship required for this event I believe. starts earlier (from 7am I think) to 9.30

see

oh and its rocky.

So, no-one know for sure whether you can just turn up on the day to ride (for £20) or not?
