What would they be? Can be absolutely anything, from DH race bikes to fixie 36er drop bar mountain bikes. Road bikes are good too.
For me:

Transition Bandit 29
Cannondale Flash carbon 29

Chuck in a nice old steel BMX cruiser, and I reckon that would do me fine.

In my shed I have:
BMX (rarely used these days, need to mtfu)
Charge plug for getting about town
Cotic Soul 1x9 gearing - local XC and training
Last Herb FR with 160mm F&R - From tougher XC to Alpine DH

A good spread that covers almost everything. Wouldn't want another mtb as it'd be pointless when those two do all genres apart from trials. And i definitely don't want a proper road bike in there.

Are we assuming money is no concern?
erm, maybe something like:
SC nomad carbon, Fox 180-140 Talas or BOS 160mm something, Edge/enve rims etc
Nicolai DH bike with electric assist/power. w. Manitou carbon dorados
Moots 29er Ti Softail, Are there 29er able Maverick forks?
maybe a Charge Blender Ti, dropped 36 Float, etc

All overly blinged, but not toooo flashy, just a little too flashy

Seomthing like that. And then I'd realise Id want to change them all, if only slightly

Cotic Soul would be the 'regular' bike
Some kind of long travel full suss for occasional trail centre duties.
Steel framed road tourer, as my 'road' and commuter bike option...chosen closely behind a drop bar mtb
Surly fat bike, to give my collection some eccentricity

DH bike - TR250, or a V10
Hardtail - think I'd keep my Soul, maybe a similar bike in Ti

Dunno after that. Maybe a Blur TRc

Hmmm,

Custom Steel road bike for road and touring
My Tallboy but with some further choice mods (Enve springs to mind)
A Blur TRc set up for jumping, razzing and slaloming etc
A Ritte Crossberg with Dugast tubs etc

Think that would do for now

what's great is if you re-post this in a weeks time and i guarantee that the majority of the responses from the same people would be different. and in some small way i find that reassuring.

Santa cruz carbon nomad set up with bos deville 170 (with angle set so at 65.5) ccdb, fox dhx rc4 or bos stoy rear shock for lake district, alps riding,
Santa cruz blur trc set up with bos deville's ( lowered to 140) vipe'r and 1x10 gearing for trail centres,
Some sort of supportive road bike ( no idea what, one that fits preferably )
For my last bike I'd be torn between either a hardcore hardtail or some kind of street trial bike.

...or some kind of street trial bike.

Oof. There's a thought. Does it have to be just four? In an ideal world I'd have seven or eight, at least...

I thought four would be good as it gives some kind of limit, but in reality I'd have at least 6, and a big camper to put them all in.

Enigma custom Ti single-speed built roughly to Inbred geometry.
Keep my Cannondale Super Six as its just right in fit and feel though i'd put Campag on it.
Always fancied an Independant Fabrication Planet cross bike.
Some 140-160mm trail bike don't know which though.

Yeah right I've already changed my mind..

1) Something to commute to work on every day.
2) Heap of s*** bike that won't get knicked.
3) Orange 5 for playing around on.
4) Motocross bike for when my body gives up.

If you could have four women which ones would they be?

I'd probably have a:
Fun XC/trail/whatever you want to call it hardtail/dirt jump/4X bike
Poppy feeling 150-160mm AM/enduro bike
DH bike
I don't know about the 4th. I'm sure I'd find something I liked the look of soon enough.

So that'd probably be:
Stanton Slackline, 1X10, travel adjust forks
Transition Covert with BOS suspension all round or some of Marzocchi's top end 55s and a CCDB Air, dropper post, SRAM X0 2x10 with one of those MRP guides
Specialized Demo

I'd like a Session for the yearly trip to the Alps, but it's never going to happen unless i sell everything else ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I was going to reply last night but decided to give such a serious subject proper thought.

1. My current Yeti ASR-AL (but upgrade the SLX kit to XTR
2. My current Van Nic Tuareg Ti Hardtail
3. A custom steel roadbike with Di2
4. A winter training bike - Steel frame Rohloff hub

I'll be halfway there later this year hopefully when I upgrade the Yeti.
Threads like this are dangerous

I'd go for:

A Nicolai Helius AC, tricked up with XTR and BOS to replace my CC with XT
A Niner Air 29'er with XTR etc
A Dogma with Di2
A Brodie Holeshot as per the above MTB's for messing about on

And that'd do me fine and dandy

3 - (flat bar) road(ish) bike for commute etc. (Tap or Roadrat)
