[#12312712]

can i do the other way round?

i've got my old slx mech coping fine with a 46t cassette and am planning to go to an 11sp sunrace cassette to have a better spread of low gears. so was planning to do the mech first, till i got it working nicely with 46t and it occured to me i might not need to chnage it at all, or at any rate could do the shifter and cassette first instead.

so does that work?

thanks : )

I don’t understand the question?
Is the mech 10 or 11s?
Will the new cassette be 46 or bigger? (they make an 11-50 I believe)

Works either way.
I've run a zee mech with an xt 11 speed shifter in a pinch after I destroyed the xt mech at Ard Rock. Had to lock out the bigger sprockets obviously.

On my Hardtail I use a Saint 10 speed shifter with an XT 11 speed mech. 11-42 sunrace 10 speed cassette.

sorry, totally waffly.

mech is 10sp. current cassette is 10sp 11-46t (ie it just copes with 46 with replaced b-tension screw)
want to go 11sp with 11-46 cassette.

since mech copes with 46, can i replace shifter and cassette with 11sp and keep the mech for now?
