Having only ever bought factory wheels I've decided to treat myself to a pair of ZTR Alpine wheels with pro II hubs for racing duties. I want then to be light too.
When choosing my specification I am given the option of 28h or 32h rims. So what do I need to know about the difference in these? Are they designed for a specific body weight or something more technical? I'm 71kg BTW.
Also spokes. What are a good spoke to go for? My options seem to be; DT Swiss Supercomp, DT Swiss Revolution, Sapim CX X-ray. Can someone explain to an idiot what the difference is between them?
Thank you in advance. MM
DT Revs are 2mm 1.5mm butted
DT SuperComps are 2mm 1.7/1.8mm butted
Supercomps are about a 1/2 gram heavier a spoke but build a stronger stiffer wheel. not sure about CX X-rays
At 71kg you should be OK with 28 hole, but obviously depends on your riding style. some would argue that 32 hole are stiffer, most wouldn't notice the difference.
I'm a touch heavier and have a 24 hole crest hoop on the front and a 32 hole crest rear hoop, for everyday riding.
hopes are not the lightest of hubs. i like em though.
