I'd just echo jamesgarbetts sentiment of

a) riding a mountain bike up a busy road b) mostly carrying it back down the off-road bit

Or at least that's what it was like in January couple of years back.

And yeah, if I'm in Glossop I prefer to not get out of, or indeed stop, the car

Simon, it heads West. Unless you want to climb it, which knowing you wouldn't be a huge surprise

Might try and build it into a Manchester to Sheffield route this year

Sniff, well we were planning a Manchester to Brighton off road short ride this year as well 😈

Manc to Sheff is a lovely day out and not that big mileage. The train journey out or back is nice too. Last time I did it we got off the train in Stockport to save some boring miles.

Rode it via Hayfield and Jacobs down to Edale then Jaggers Clough / Beast over to Ladybower before going up via Bamford to Stanage and all downhill to Sheffield City Centre. Very satisfying.
