[#2185374]

It seemed a bit pointless having two 29er hard tail Rohloffs, so the Rohloff rear wheel from the Gary Fisher commuter has now become a spare for the Lynskey racer and the Gary Fisher has got a bit lighter. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Still at the Trying It Out stage at the moment. Only a short test ride so far.
34x20. A bit low perhaps ? I'll see how I get on and maybe go for 34x18.
I'm impressed with how easy it was to seat the tyre on the Stan's Flow rim, so I might transfer that across to one of the Rohloff hubs and get a white rim built on to this one.

You'll find it's only the desperado try-too-hards who grow the beards. The rest of use just enjoy riding bikes...

I'm not exactly too sure what you have done as I am not really niche. Have you swapped wheels from one bike to another or is there more to it than that? Just asking - hope it's all good!

I'd like to disagree at this point, I'm beardy and singlespeed because I'm lazy, I said I'd like to disagree, but I can't be ar$Ed, oh and to the OP, that looks very nice by the way

I started off SSing on 32/17 as I was a little unsure about my knees. Now ride 34/17 which is obviously the classic 2:1 ratio. I can ride quite surprising gradients of length on this gearing (and I weigh 103kg). I do find the continuous ups and downs on the Chase a little bit of a struggle though. So for true offroading you will probably find your ratio ok on the ups. It will be a chore I suspect on the flat though and any road sections will be mind bending. Have fun fella.

ron-jeremy definitely doesn't fit into the desperado try too hard category, unless he's trying too hard to have a wobbly rear end that keeps needing to be pumped in the forest of dean ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks tazzy, I would reply with a cute picture of a cat or a bunny, but can't seem to find an appropriate one...

I'm trying to remember if I rode SS, had *this* beard, or had my nipple piercings first. Beard first I'd guess, as I've had *a* beard since I was able to grow a beard (apart from one day at the end of October 2007, when I shaved it all off to start again), tho' I probably rode a SS as a small boy too, so maybe that came first ...

I'm not going to use the chicken and egg cliche, as it's obviously egg, given the now almost universal agreement that birds are reptiles.

@ MTG - taking this OT a mo', but what's the story with the 'vegan cycle' clothing on your photostream please ...

I'm more interested in how your forks are clean and the rest isn't?

Magic?

"I'm not exactly too sure what you have done..."
I've removed the Rohloff rear wheel and fitted a single speed wheel in it's place.
Everything else is pretty much the same. I've even still got the speedbone on it, as I couldn't find any short caliper mounting bolts, and a short grip on the right, which feels a bit odd without the twistgrip.

34x20 on a 29er. That 2:1 rule is for 26ers. Maybe a tad low going by the 2:1 +2 teeth on the back rule for 29ers, although I was running 34x13 with the Rohloff, which is only 2 teeth away from the recommended minimum. I like spinning low gears.
I commuted on it today and it feels about right.
I'm comfortable at about 21-22 km/h on the flat.
I can sustain 24-25 and reach 28-30 for short bursts.
I rode up everything I would normally ride up with gears.

The forks are clean after riding through muddy, narrow singletrack with overhanging grass and bushes. It constantly wipes them clean.

The Vegan Cyclists kit is some stuff I got printed for www.veganfitness.net It's based on the Vegan Runners vests.
There's a few pictures of me wearing it on there too.

Why is it that Vegans feel the need to tell you that they are vegan?

I don't know if it was Graham at Hit the North but there was an exchange something like this:
Mr Sparkle filming event.
Riders go by.
One shouts 'Go Vegan!'
Mr Sparkle 'F*ck off!'

All in a good natured way, of course.

Andy,as it's printed on a kit your question could be akin to asking why people feel the need to tell us that they read singletrack. Etc.
Although I only think it fair to let people know theyve been dropped by a scrawny tree hugging crank ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ps. Black rims look better on that for me.

That powerbelly/daisy dukes shot is gratuitous and probably some kind of deadly sin..

On a related note.. My little boys grandpa is an active but overweight vegan.. could obesity in retirement age men be inextricably linked to veganism..? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bob- It's nothing to do with the kit. I find it weird that Vegans choose to tell you that they are vegan. So you don't eat much then? Like I give a shit.

Er, when did I do that then ?

So you don't eat much then?

About the same as most other 95kg 12 hour solo riders I would imagine.

Not fixie, not niche

Going by the speeds I mentioned above, I can sprint up to about 30km/h over the brow of a hill, then coast down. A fixie would restrict me to a maximum of about 24km/h.
I'll go for practicality over nicheness in this case.
