Having just finished the Kinesis Hell of the West, which I think will make that "Iconic" status, I was thinking of what to do in 2013. What other events/to do's make the Iconic list.
I thought of the Dyfi Challenge, maybe Keilder 100 or a 24hr. Doesn't have to be a race. Could be a pre breakfast ride (never done that) or a bivi out with mates.
So what do you qualify as the UK's "Iconic" mountain bike events?
Nothing to me in the UK is on a must do list. Maybe the South Downs Way but that is about it.
Dyfi Enduro
Mountain Mayhem
Dusk Till Dawn

Really? SDW is a long ride but dull.
West Highland Way
Straffpuffer
Wales North to South Sarn Helen
Mayhem if you want atmosphere but a dull course
(TranWales if it was still going!)
How about the Welsh Ride Thing?
Strathpuffer has to be the one.
Only event I'll be doing is the 10th anniversary Dalbeattie Hardrock Challenge ๐
Anyone done the whinlatter challenge in the lakes?
not disagreeing, but nothing in the UK has anything about them. Mayhem, mud, crap course, etc. most 24hrs the same, Nothing short course with any history. Very few long monument rides in my opinion.Really? SDW is a long ride but dull.
like most things this is my opinion others will have different.
+1 SDW is a long ride but dull.
You've only just finished the Hell of the West? Hell of the West is deffo up there but on a CX bike next year and hopefully not clearing up the track!
Dyfi Enduro lived up to the hype for me, as did Bristol Bike Fest.
Bearded man 3 day.
Margam Madness.
STW Weekender ๐
always enjoy Bikefest and Oktoberfest too ๐
Mayhem might have a crap course but it is iconic. You have to do it at least once so you can log into STW & slag it off...
From the things I have done, my events/rides to do in the UK would include Mayhem, Dyfi, K100, D2D, G100, Selkirk marathon, Drumlanrig XC race, Dably XC race, Tim Woodcock's Scottish C2C, Snowdon, Helvellyn.
I'm going to go with Black Mountains 3 Day for sure!
Wales Coast to Coast - I've done Dave Buchanan's, not Sarn Helen (not done ENgland ro Scotland C2C).
Bristol BikeFest/Oktoberfest, only because it's always a good vibe and it literally doesn't matter what the weather does now they've rebuilt the trails there. If it's wet, there's precious little mud to trash the bike in all reality. Although statistically it must be the driest UK event I believe?
3 Peaks if its on next year.
Try and do all the rides over the 9 days of TweedLove fest. That'll give you lots of racing, a bivi, and a ton of free guided trail rides. It'll be a fairly punishing schedule though...
By no means done all that is out there but...
Tour De Ben Nevis was a fairly epic day out in 2011
Dyfi Enduro was loads of fun this year
Bikefest is fun beacause of the atmosphere but mostly because I can ride from my house to the start line ๐
Looked at the Bearded but it was just so ruddy expensive. Is it that good?
PS - having done 70km'ish races I have no idea how painful Kielder must be. It just must be death!
3 Peaks
Kielder 100
Fort William Endurance Downhill
Mountain Mayhem
Strathpuffer
Maybe the Tour de Ben Nevis
Iconic isn't the same as good of course ๐ But these ones stand out for me.
Iconic isn't the same as [s]good[/s] infamous of course
FIFY
Dyfi and Keilder100 the 24/12 solo championship is pretty good.
Grand Raid Pyrenees- edit oops not UK sorry
Isle of man end to end. Great day out and race.
Pearce Dh series fun and friendly
