Just watching the financial meltdown film on BBC2 and it started in Iceland, showing lots of shots of the highlands. It looks amazing are there established mtb tracks out there? (I may have the opportunity to go in 2012)
There's no trail centres but thousands of miles of open spaces

There's a wee urban loop around by the bins at ours, but not much else.
not much aparently (although that was in 2006). there are plenty of landrover tracks which could be used, but there are strict laws about going off paths, as the vegitation/fungi etc are SO fragile (you just don't do it...). i dunno about the rules of cycling on established walking trails.
Wait until Ambrose sees this thread. IIRC, he has been out there more than once and done some serious touring on his MTB.
Pretty much uncharted MTB territory out there. Unbelieveably. Very strict access laws though.
Although (whisper it) it's perfectly legal to ride on the pavement...

Well I'd hope to get out beyond the "wee" bins (druidh :-)) and also the pavements, but landrover tracks doesn't sound very promising. We have those locally here where I ride and wheel ruts are no fun!
