I have been off the mtbing for nearly 2 years due to back surgery, just before the back went I broke my trusty Mojo of 5 years and was offered a replacement Mojo SL frame at a good price for 2pure. So now it's built up after a year delay and first proper mud ride and the chain suck was a nightmare.... to the point it bent the frame guard and trapped my chain.
So do I go 1x11, I know I need a new cassette, a new shifter, and a new clutch mech, but can I use my Race Face Deus Crank with a new narrow wide ring or does the crank need changing.
I seems to make sense going 1x11, and it will look nice and clean and save weight.... just want to make sure i'm not missing anything.
Thanks
Crank should be fine.
I'm running an ancient stylo crank on one bike with an Absolute Black oval n/w ring.
All drive train is GX.
Other bike I'm building is GX again but with a Shimano M8000 cassette so I don't have to buy an XD driver for the hub which is costly.... And unavailable for this hub anyway. Only"loss" is it has 11t rather than 10t high gear.
I can live with that.
Love 11 speed, so clean looking and simple to maintain.
I haven't had chainsuck in years and I use a triple front. If you've been off your bike for a length of time maybe you're bike setup skills are also out of practice, working on the presumption that you built your new frame up yourself. I'd suggest taking your bike into your LBS and getting them to set it up.
