How do I try less width before cutting them down?
Moving the grips in seems an option but not sure it's a safe one.
What about moving the controls in forcing my hands further in?
Move the grips in make sure you have bar plugs
Where are you based?
I have about 12 pair of bars in my shed in various widths and rises. I don't think for one moment I am alone in this. I am sure there would be someone local to you that could offer a loan pair?

Why not? Move grips and controls in.
Jef - If you have a 740-760 riser, I'm interested 🙂
How wide is too wide?
How big are your tits?
Oh BARS!!!
'Scuse me.
you can feel your hands are this <-----//----> far apart....Why not? Move grips and controls in.
can I fit through that gap yeah sure I can
crash
ok maybe not.
It is the most sensible way of doing it if you remember. I do recall clipping my bars a few times in the past on my old hack bike that had wandering grips.
Wow, those Bontys! Where could you ride without them getting in the way??
Funny how Keith Bontrager used to dismiss riser bars as pointless, then his company comes up with those monsters!
i dont think they would fit through the front door of my garage....
There's a few close shaves at Cannock that might result in some type of interface with those
Keith dismissed them as a straight bar is stronger and he believed the rise was better provided in the stem. Those bars are only the slightest of rises! 😉

Well considering they are 4cm wider than my current bars, lots of places. Tonight's run was a little tight but through with no issues

^this. Even with 720mm bars I have to be careful. There are plenty of scars on some of the trees that prove some riders can't get through without contact.
Few local woody bits and narrow trails had me pushing my Stooge with Moto bars (800mm). I have to tilt my bars 45' to get through certain gaps. Trade off between bars or wheel hitting stuff. Annoying. Love the bar feel and the width. Suppose I should think about cutting them 😥
Jef - Thanks, I'm in Staffs and running 780's atm.
TheStabiliser - What are you on??? Put the cup down and walk away from the coffee.
@Molegrips
They're not really for sale TBH, but happy for people to try them.
Nearest I have to what you are after are;
777 - 10mm rise (Spank)
760 - 30mm rise (Kore)
711 - 10mm rise (Easton)
I'm all the way down in deepest darkest Hompshure.
720's FTW they are the *perfect* width (for me) and hence, in STW tradition, everyone else should be using them. Then I used to think that about 700's and 680's before that though and probably the 580's before that. These bars just get wider and wider...
But those 820's are utterly mental. For sure..
I have 750mm wide Thomson carbon bars with cane creek bar ends. The bars are fairly wide on their own, plus made sightly wider with bar ends and then hooks on the end for good measure
It's like riding with velcro on the ends of bars, I can get branches, twigs, leaves and foliage gripping on hoping to pull me towards them
Twisty sections in tight wooded areas take a fair bit of concentration (e.g like the odd bit of swinley)
I've got 820s, they're fine for most stuff, not cannock though
820's that's almost my height 😯
Jeepers
How wide are they currently ?
Yes move controls first - how much where you thinking of cutting off ?
I've been eyeing up these rather lovely Bontrager ones this morning, which are 820mm
The gate at the end of the trail that crosses the carpark road at CyB is 780mm wide. Someone was holding the gate open for me when I found out.
I have 800mm bars.

Ah, no worries then. Just wanted some wider for my Patriot but didn't want to spend the £20 that the On One ones are 🙂
I wonder if this width will ever be back in fashion again!.
Er, no. 🙂

Apart from with the fixie pixies in Londin
muffin man those bars never went out of fashion in my house 😀
the wife specifically asked me to fit narrower bars to her bike as the fashionably wide bars she had dont fit her shape - she felt like she was riding a chopper.
she felt like she was riding a chopper.
Funny, that's what she said to me last night
