Gonna start commuting...not riding far maybe 2-3 miles.was thinking a hybrid..any deals on ATM? Any suggestions?
either slick tyres on an old mountain bike or an old road bike with panniers and guards.

I just use a 10 year old mtb. No problem for that sort of distance.
I put some Schwalbe road tyres on a cheap Spesh Hotrock and it's just the job for the kind of thing you want
I'd say old MTB too. My old Spesh Hardrock has been "adapted" over the years.
Anything with Slicks+guards+panniers=commuter
disks if you are going to be carrying some load (such as a laptop) and a hub gear if you want to go the whole hog.
The on-one would be perfect, I went for a focus tr3.0 as it ticked all the boxes, is ninja black and has bright blue tyres....whats not to like 🙂
