[#797923]

so i had my first proper ride last night on my new 456 and i am quite suprsied at how different it rides compared to my previous normal inbred.

both were built up with the same kit(revs, mavic wheels etc)

old frame was 20"
new frame is 18"

the new one is so much more direct , doesnt flex as much and feels much more chuckable!

going up the same steep bank that had the front end wandering on the old frame , it was perfectly planted on the 456 even with the forks wound out to 130mm.

made last nights ride one of the best ive had up the wyre forest!!

that is all.

Er... you changed the frame size! All the same kit and same setup (eg fork length, bar height, saddle height, position, etc) is pretty irrelevant given that variable!

I reckoned that with the same kit, my 456 felt almost identical to my inbred, just very slightly slower steering - both were the same size.

Are you sure it's not the Emperor's new frame? ๐Ÿ™‚

I am thinking of getting a 456 frame to build up, and selling my Explosif. So you'd recommend them then? What is the HA of the 456?

Any why are they so cheap? lol.

Now's the ideal time to start thinking about upgrading to a 456 Summer ๐Ÿ˜‰

Frame size could be a big factor! A smaller frame will generally be stiffer, and will definitely feel more chuckable. Should be lighter than the Inbred too (I think?). The 456 geometry is also better suited to longer forks, which means that you can run it at 130 and not affect climbs too much.

Same HA on the 456 and inbred
Steeper SA on the 456
You could get 456 geometry on an inbred by running a straighter post.

All in all it explains the more planted climbing feel, your saddle is half an inch or so further foreward, thus moving the weight a little further foreward.

spoon - are you quoting angles from on-one. If so, Brant told me he made them up and they're not real - he said people wouldn't buy the frames if they knew what they really were...

How tall are you Renton?

I'm in between 19-20 inch frames and interested in the 456 frames.

im 6 foot bang on !!

the 20" inbred felt nice to ride all day long on non techy stuff but felt like a barge going round corners!!

18" 456 feels spot on with a 70mm stem.

cheers

So because the previous frame was too big for you and the new one fits right, the new model is inherently better? ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that you've just found the joys of a frame that fits, not that the 456 is inherently any better...
