I’m pretty sure you’re sick & tired of tyre choice questions, but I could really do with the benefit of collective wisdom.
Over the last few years I have really settled on my tyre choice: Spring, Summer & Autumn I use Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1 & for Winter I use either the Trailraker 2.1 or the Bonty Mud X ... I ride regularly in places such as the Dark Peak, White Peak, Lake District, West Yorks & North Lancs (just completed the C2C on the Fire XC’s).
Problem ... I’ve recently acquired a particularly stunning Zesty that came with tubeless Hutchinson Cougar/Cobra 2.25’s. Now, in the recent dry weather they have been really very good and the bigger volume tyre is really an eye opener. Today, however, I did one of my favourite rides in the White Peak & the tyres were appalling. The combination of polished limestone & a bit of damp weather resulted in the sketchiest ride I’ve had for years (including 2 off’s!).
What would you recommend as the optimum UST 2.25 (ish) tyre for the different seasons?
NB: I ride on all kinds of surface & particularly enjoy technical climbing & rocky/rooty descents. I gotta admit though, I’m not really an AM freerider doing big drops & the like.
Cheers
