Envious. Want to do the same. Did you have to build all the tools *the twirly thing with a handle and jig) too?

No I bought them sadly. CRC had a sort of twirly thing from Xtools going for £4 so I couldn't resist.

It's brill. Not cheaper. But brill. Did mine in the fork using spokes and elastic bands for the feelers. Spoke tool was a couple of quid.

Well done!

So tempted to have a go on an old wheel, it's just the cost of tools etc.
Did you use a dishing tool or improvise something?

I have got a dishing tool but actually didn't use it. I stuck the wheel into the frame & it came out as looking pretty central, so I left it at that. If there had been a problem then I would have used the tool. Have a go. It is great fun to do.(when it goes well!)

Broke my wheel building cherry today too.

As my ride was cancelled, I knocked up the jig this morning and spend day on off doing building and truing, between nursing sick child.

Note 'dishing tool' in foreground, kids hairbands and pencil/biro for gauges, elec screwdriver for initial nipple screwing in and spoke key from my ride kit multitool!

Its still sitting there because I cant beleive the I seem to have made a jolly decent fist of it with what feels like reasonably consitent spoke tension.
