Can I make a headset?

Not had a close look yet but guess its just a couple of bearing seats and a race etc? And the bearings can be picked up from any decent supplier.

Anyone done it?

in principle yes.

far better to set up an e-bay 'spacers' account, and make a small fortune selling bearing drifts and spacers and insertion tools to all the home mechanics.

Cylindrical spacers: 3 dimensions. £5 each.

top-hat spacers: 5 dimensions, £7 each.

and buy yourself a gold-plated chris-king with the profit.

why not...some years ago I made a lower headset "case" for an 1 1/4 headset (yeti fro) ..the original one had a crack...

but it is time consuming... I don´t think it makes much sense for actual standards like 1 1/8, 1.5....

Buy a run of the mill one, lathe it up and make it look pimp (cooling fins?), flog it on ebay, rejoice.
