To set the scene, I've just returned from supporting my friends in their challenge at doing the South Downs way double in one go. That's 210 offroad miles!

The ride is a charity fundraiser for the cystic fibrosis trust which helps support parents and patients with cystic fibrosis, something my 2 year old godson was diagnosed with at 3 weeks old.

Last year they attempted it achieving the one way in 22 hours in the most horrendous weather, I dropped out halfway due to a crash. Due to the conditions then It was stopped on safety grounds.

This year they set off at 2200hrs Sunday reaching Eastbourne in 16hours! Then the really tough bit came turning straight around and riding back. Something they completed this morning at just before noon.

I've never been so proud to call a group of people friends. These aren't athletes or super men they're normal chaps like you and me motivated to achieve an aim. 2 of them aren't even regular cyclists.

Once I've caught up on some sleep I'm happy to answer any questions for anyone else considering something similar.

If this little tale has touched you perhaps you could drop a few pounds into the charity pot on their just giving site
