That's a good point. Providing everything gets delivered sharpish, mine should be finished by next weekend. I like the idea of the CTD, reports on pinkbike of the descend setting being a bit too soft for most stuff though, and that number 1 trail setting is a better choice for most riding, but it's hard to tell.
Does the CTD replace 123 of the rp23, but still have on/off lever?
CTD means the big blue lever gives you "most lockout", "some support" or "fully squishy"
For more technical terms, see the fox website 😉
Just collected my forks, just need to get a seatpost and for the wheels to arrive 😀
Looks good sambob. I'll be scrounging a go on your clown bike next time I see you!
You're more than welcome too, I'll have to have a spin on your Meta too. I swear every time I see you you're riding a different bike!
Um yeah. Speaking of which...new frame coming today...
What this time?

Can't see pic here,is it just me?
That's coming along nicely, all you need is wheels, brakes, gears, a chainset, seatpost and saddle, tyres, grips, a hacksaw and a can of spray paint and you'll be good to go... Can we expect to see it out next Wednesday/Thursday then or will you be going back into hibernation... 🙂
Did you get the seatpost sorted btw? I can lend you a shonked-out USE Sumo and saddle - erm, a Spoon I think - if you need one. Or a good condition KS dropper post, the non-remote version...
Anyway, nice colour. Make sure the post is optimal length if you're planning on dropping it - that seat-tube looks slightly kinked to me, though it may just be my monitor 😉
May well be out Thursday night, I'll be riding Wednesday afternoon though if I've finished it by then. That KS sounds interesting, will email you.
Ooh shiny, that gets the bigdugsbaws seal of approval 🙂

Twice it seems!
Did you get the revs from crc?
Yup, £270 for the RL's.
For anyone interested, my 44s came from bike24, £400 which aint bad for 44s. Went for them over revs as I wanted something a bit burlier. They come at 120mm but with the spacer to go down to 100 (or you can remove one to go to 140 as I have).
Right, made my mind up now, Horsethief it is.
Looks like a trip to see Mr Bikemonger is on the cards on Monday 😀
Nice one. Looks like it'll be 3 Horsethiefs bought/built up on here in the space of about two weeks! Unless IA got his a while ago?
Bought mine on the 10th, but various factors including snow mean it's not ridden yet.
It is now completely built just waiting on the shock back. Hopefully it'll ride as good as it looks 🙂
Wheels dispatched, should arrive on Thursday. So close to finishing it, the wait is killing me!
the wait is killing me!
can I have your bike?
Depends how much you're willing to pay!
Finally got to ride mine at the weekend, here it is after a few laps of Cwmcarn:
Loving it so far. So nice to have a bike that fits properly and doesn't look like a total gate 🙂
Very stable, effortless speed in the way a DH bike has, not getting caught up on anything. Takes a bit of manhandling round corners, but it's to be expected and not necessarily a bad thing - feels like my DH bikes in that respect. Also I can't really pass judgment yet - there aren't really any corners at cwmcarn! Didn't have the time to get on the DH track with it, maybe another day.
Only change will be putting spds on it, 1x9 was ok round Cwmcarn on flats, but a little more effort than it needed to be.
Right, made my mind up now, Horsethief it is.

After two weeks of dithering I've finally got round to visiting Charlie, should have it on Thursday or Friday 😀
Now off to CRC to look at forks!
Mine arrived from him today, will get it built next week, need the current bike for a race on Saturday first 🙂
I almost feel responsible for your purchases. I'm proud of that 😀 I love mine, it's an absolute hoot, just so good pretty much everywhere. Chunky Monkey 2.4 doesn't feel in any way draggy, brilliant tyre up front.
HTN dlr?
Best bike I've ever owned... And that's an embarrassing long list of bikes! Have mine with a CCDB Air shock and 140mm white bros loops... Xtr... Etc... Super smooth and very fast... Could be lighter and flasher.... Just not better..
I had been thinking about one for quite a while but kept putting it off as I was unsure on the long on paper top tube. Far too stressful so decided just to buy one, if it doesn't work I move on but at least I will know 🙂
Htn? Heh.? If you mean what race, gorrick xc, using my scandal 29er which is giving its wheels and couple of other bits to the HF afterwards
Thought you might have been doing Hit The North. Surprised the CCDB fits Grace, didn't think there'd be enough space under the top tube.
Ah nope, I can see the english channel from my bedroom window lol, quite southern
Sounds grim 😉

It's a good tyre, very grippy, but really it is draggy compared to something fast! Was on my other bike (with beavers on) yesterday and it flies in comparison.
The CM aint too draggy, but it's certainly a draggy tyre compared to something fast.
Sambob...mounted the ccdb air "upside-down"...was a great upgrade from the rp23...i occaisonally miss the propedal...especially since experimenting with 1x10...but at least never forget to switch it back 🙂 Anyhow - I'll switch back to double bash again soon..have had the horsethief for nearly a year now - took it to the Alps (Bikevillage - Les Arcs)etc where it was ace...I nearly always start getting tempted by the latest new frameset by now - but just dont think about upgrading anymore!!
Must admit I fancy trying a Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph snakeskin combo. What did you think of Bikevillage?
Sambob.. Have been to BV for two weeks for the last 3 years... Sam and Lyndsey are the best people and will make your holiday exactly what you want it to be...its more tough, technical (but flowy) single track rather than out and out DH... But I come back fitter and a better rider to boot... We've also made good friends which we still see back in the UK... Its that sort of place....
I'm on Marxist Ardents 2.25/2.4s. I actually started on the racing Ralph / nobby nic combos... Nice and light but I found they washed out a bit... And wore out fast... But different folks etc
Had also considered Ardents, trying to find something a bit lighter than the Chunky Monkey though.
The other ones I've tried.... And think I may go back to.... Are the new style Bontrager 29-4..at least on the front... Might try to match up with a 29-2 or 3...try as I might I still struggle mixing brands... Just a vanity thing obviously! Perhaps one day I won't bother what it looks like!?

ikon front, crossmark rear is a very fast and surprisingly grippy 29er combo, bit lightweight for my build, but if you've more of a trail and less of a AM build it might suit? Probably not for a month or two mind weather wise...
Maxxis are also making 29er high rollers now...
Great bike, I got one of the last Large available from Charlie.
The Grey is Green in my opinion (I suspect quite a clash on Sambobs build with red hub Hope Hoops) a very unusual colour and I'm still in two minds whether I like it or not.
Very short stem required - 50mm Renthal on mine.
The bike is not that easy to Manual although better technique helps.
(Only snag is if you swap bikes a lot and forget - the same amount of oomph and your wheel is a lot higher than you wanted!)
Overall very, very pleased and a big thanks to Sambob (who I don't know). A friend saw his post on here and alerted me to the frame on offer at Charlies.
I bought a Large and on my reccomend another friend bought the last Med - the power of STW.
I agree difficult to manual (I should say more difficult - for the most part it's user error on my behalf) - and I miss the pro pedal a bit (I have changed to a CCDB air) - but really it's all good. A silly amount of fun downhill and on flowy singletrack...!
Here's mine in an earlier guise...I now how 140mm White Bros Loops, CCDB air...
