I am too in shock, nobody has posted about how £20 posts never bend and are sooooo much cheaper.

I am sorry for your loss also

it'll stop it slipping further down into the frame, anyway.

this is what happens when fashion meets fatties.
too much seatpost showing, it was just a matter of time.

Big heavy bloke in 'oh look a lightweight part has bent beneath my not inconsiderable bulk' shocker...

Try a DH post or something, Ton.

The point of Thomson posts is that they *do* bend.

Instead of snap.

Shirley?

Well what did you expect, Ton? Considering all the 'I may be a big bloke but I'm still fit an healthy and can ride a bike you know' posts. Yes, we know you're a big bloke, Ton. You keep telling us. Most MTB kit probbly isn't designed to be hammered by people well over 15 stone. Because very large people don't tend to ride bikes much. The bike companies do their research, and base their designs around the upper average sort of weight and build, I'd say. Thomson stuff is designed to be strong yet lightweight. What you need is something that's stronger, and inevitably heavier.

Or lose weight.

Personally, I could happily and safely ride around on kit that weighs a third less, and not worry about snapping it, but have to suffer a weight penalty because blokes like Ton keep bending lightweight stuff...

I thought Thomson stuff was a bit heavier and a bit stronger than the usual kit...?

not a 'bit stronger' enough, it would seem...

Thomson is fairly lightweight, but stronger than other lightweight stuff. The Masterpiece is very light for an alloy post.

How about something like this, Ton? Bargainous, too:

From Thomson site re: Elite post;

Q – Is there a weight limit for the Elite seatpost?
A – Practically speaking, no.

I'd be talking to them and seeign if they'll stump up for a new shaft.

the Masterpiece has a weight limit of 200lb though...

Isn't it Thomson who have that black and white picture (in an advert?) of a fat bugger riding on one of their seatposts?

EDIT This one: Point being, if they advertise like that, it shouldn't bloody bend or break!

I used to have a titec one, bought it based on the 5 year no quibble guarentee, unfortuately it's only 26.8 so too small for my 456 and siezed into the last frame 🙁

In fairnness, it's a 27.2mm post, so would bend more easily with a big lad sat atop it than a larger diameter one, no?

Echo the comments along the line of 'it's done what it's designed to'. Thomson are an American company are they not? I'm willing to beg a good percentage of their home Market are more than 15 stone
