[#1257553]

I just attatched my new hydro disc brakes to my bike however the line is HUGE! I need to cut some line off, now how to i go about it?

Should i do it from the caliper end or the lever end?

Will side cutters be ok for this?

Will i have to rebleed the system?

Many thanks

nick

What brakes are they?

You may well get away without bleeding if you're careful or if they're Avids. You'll probably need a new olive, and a new 'insert' or hose barb unless they're Hope brakes.

If you take the wheel out and pump the lever slightly, disconnect and trim at the lever end and after reassembly push the pistons back you should get away without a rebleed but you might not as you will push any air back into the master cylinder.

its useful to learn how to bleed your brakes. it should be done annually anyway..

Hopes have resuable fittings - dunno about other makes

Caliper end is normally easier, regular cable cutters are OK if the lines are normal plastic ones, braided hoses sometimes need a hacksaw to get a good finish, yep, best to re-bleed them after.
