Hi - picked up a Reverb last week, but need to shorten the hose length. Have found the video online showing how to do it, and it says to use a special hose cutter tool.

Is this really necessary? They're quite pricey, even this cheapy one is a tenner (Hose cutter)... can it be done with a sharp knife, or is it worth spending the ££ on the tool?

plastic hose can easily be cut with a sharp stanley. Just make sure it's perpendicular.

goodrich stuff Ive never used, so no idea.

I've always just used regular cable cutters on hose

Sharp stanley knife is perfect for plastic hose. For braided, I've used (sharp) cable cutters.
