[#929122]

getting a Bad Boy soon which will have either commuting 35mm slicks or skinny 1.8 ish mtb tyres on depending on what I am riding. What mudguards to cover the range of tyres? SKS cromo's would do the job for the slicks, but I don't want to be taking them on and off when I change tyres. Are crud cathcers gonna look daft ?

Cheers

I use my Inbred for a combination of commuting and off-road so I've fitted it with one of the top-peak moto-cross style front mudguards (the ones that fit to the bottom of the fork crown) and a rear crudguard. Looks horrible (so I've not taken any pictures so far) however it works well enough.

The front crud-catcher doesn't work all that well on the road as in the wet you get lots of spray thrown in your face.

Theres alos those 'beaever tail' style mudguards that clip on and off. Though i'd imagine if any mud picked up off-road might clog up the attchments unless you clean them out.

Full length mudguards will clog up off road, even if you could get them to fit.

Could the new Crud road guards fit 35mm tyres? apparently they're quite good at containing spray may run a bit close for offroad duties though...

I thought they only work well with 23-25mm tyres.

SKS do an option for MTB tyres which would allow you to swap between slicks and bigger tyres.

Crud Roadracer mudguards just arrived this morning (for my commuter)
blerb says 'Road tyres only, Do not use off road!'

not fitted 'em yet though suspect they'll not give anywhere near enough clearance
and off road would get ripped off and mangled first ride tbh

I have looked at those crud road guards, but yes to narrow - hopefully they will make a wider one as that would be ideal.....

I have a Revolution S1ngle with 1.6 tyres and use SKS Chromoplastic Mudguards (65mm MTB).
Plenty of clearance for wider tyres.

I put some SKS Chromoplastic Mudguards on my dad's hybrid and was well impressed by them, would happily recommend them too.
No idea about there clearance though with mud tyres, but the once I bought were very generous clearnace wise (couldn't tell you which they were though).

Otherwise if you have rear canti-mounts and a decathlon nearby I'd throughly recommend there ownbrand rear mudguard, it's the best I've used.

fits really quite close to the rear tyre, buit has no mud/tyre clearance issues.

Carradice Camper Longflap.
Can hold up to 21l of crap and with the SQR can fitted to the bike in seconds. The bike now has full dynamo lights and should be as low-maintenance as a bike can be.

I've never really got on top of it, but there are people with Big Dummys using SKS-style generic mudguards designed for 29ers with 2.5 inch fat 26" tyres. You can definitely get full guards that will work with those tyre combinations. Sorry not to be able to supply a link.
