As per question - what width could you fit at the back of the frame? On a typical 29er rim.
BTW Isn't is a shame most manufacturers don't give the measurements that matter, such as the width where the tyre would be?

to work with a front mech and get a minute bit of mud clearance...2.1, no bigger.

I'm using a 2.35 with 35psi for comfort.
