Does anyone have experience if their lightest alloy wheels? Claim to be 1517g for 29ers. Which feels v. Light. Are they going to collapse at 1st sight if a berm or tiny XC type drop?
Keen to know more as I am looking for a new set for my Vitus Rapide HT which has fairly chunky wheels all thongs considered
Wow that was full of typos!
I’ve used a set for a while on my hardtail. Had zero issues.
I've got a set of the older XC wide's which are only a bit more weighty than that. I've given them quite a lot of abuse and they're starting to get a bit wonky, dented and have just snapped a third nipple. However, if I were using them for more their intended use as opposed to casing doubles and landing sideways, I suspect they'd be doing an awful lot better. Bearings have fared well, too.
I’ve got a set on a 140mm travel hardtail and a 120mm full sus.
On set is at least four years old and still on original bearings and not broken any spokes yet. I’m not exactly giving them the hardest use but they’ve more than coped with my shit riding.
I've got a pair that were great until I bent a rear rim, bottomed out on a rock. Sent them back to Hunt for a new rim and rebuild and it came back well under tension and promptly collapsed after a couple of rides. I rebuild it myself and its been fine ever since. I also have a pair of 700c disk lites for cx which haven't missed a beat in the 6 or 7 years I've had them. Just bought a pair of carbon 36s for my road bike. So I do rate Hunt Wheels and the factory builds them pretty well.
Now I'm considering all thongs.
I know its not the XC Race but I've been running the new V3 XC Wide on a 140/150mm trail bike with no issues whatsoever. They are stiff enough, lightweight and are fast to spin up to speed. Great value wheels.
