10am, done by 12, York ~ 2pm.
Oh bollocks I'll enter too
My 1st n only race.
Can I use an ebike or does anyone have a livestrong wrist band and a telephone number of an Italian doctor...

Sounds good to me!
I'm in!!!
Do I still need to think myself accurs'd if I'm in Belgium? 😥....
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Just 'hold your manhood' between 10 and about half 12.
I'll have to take the piss out of someone else in the car park though.
😐
Why Belgium?
Picking up some Wiggo biscuits?
Do I still need to think myself accurs'd if I'm in Belgium?
No
Saint Crispin's day.
Is the 25th October
Yeah, factually.
But it doesn't scan if you change it to 'The day before Mothers Day'.
What is the Flemish for 'pot Belge' btw?
I've entered but my receipt said it wasn't a guaranteed acceptance of entry into the event.
Binners- you can't have been far behind me in the last one- I came 194th!
I've entered but my receipt said it wasn't a guaranteed acceptance of entry into the event.
All BC entries say that. You'll get another email that says you've been automatically accepted by the organiser.
Thanks cp 🙂
10am, done by 12,
Waiting for snowplow ~ 2pm.
It is at least a cycling trip. Work gang usually to to the Tour of Flanders and associated sportive, but this year it's a week earlier for the Gent Wevelgem and Harelbeke E3. Shared bedrooms, so any manhood holding will have to be done in the bog.Why Belgium?
I've put an entry in
I'm in
Entry submitted, so I'm in.
Right, so before I enter, am I going to either die or come last by a long and embarassing distance?
I'm 15 stone (BMI around 28), not massively fit and never raced before so not going to be hugely fast and probably going to be stopping for a rest (or five) at some point!
Please tell me I'm not alone and the majority of you are entering as a social piss about? 😯
reckon you'll fit right in - there will be proper fast folk and there will be proper slow folk, and a lot of folk in between. That's partly what makes these such great events - real inclusivity!
from the horses mouth....
The aim was to stage an event that would appeal to everyone from Nick Craig to Tony The Electrician. All you needed was a bike, a helmet and a desire to get stuck in.
ciento 🙂

I'm going to be riding a comedy 29-plus clown bike with dynamo lights and massive mudguards, and will undoubtedly spend a fair portion of the race chatting and heckling Binners instead of pedalling properly. There will be plenty of fast lads, but let them past and they'll not mind - grid yourself at the back with the rest of us donkeys and you'll be fine. 🙂
yeah, it's a social for a lot of us. one or two of the fast lads at the last race were dicks mind, and one ran me off the trail in the whoopy jumpy bit of the lower red loop in phillips park, but whatever, it's a good day and since binners, rusty spanner and myself are all in you're more or less guaranteed to not be last!

Unless he's got a note from his mum excusing him, then the post ride beer and curry is compulsory
one or two of the fast lads at the last race were dicks mind
Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about them.
Remember, if you hear anyone yelling stuff like "Elite racer coming through!" that's secret XCer code for "Stick a branch in my front wheel please." 😉
I got lapped by Nick Craig, on my first lap, on the climb out of the stream.
He mumbled a resigned 'For ****'s sake' just behind me as I wobbled to a messy halt right on his line.
😀
Very civil in the circumstances, I thought.

No need for impoliteness at all.
Anyways, I'm in, firmly stuck in mid-pack if I'm lucky
He mumbled a resigned 'For ****'s sake' just behind me as I wobbled to a messy halt right on his line.
it was probably aimed at himself for not anticipating your wobble. And the fact he probably ended up with a wet foot.
I'm not complaining, I consider it an honour.
I thought he was a gent, considering.
🙂
nick lapped me at least 3 times, and smiled and asked if i was having a good time each time he did it. the lad's the biggest gent in cycling, without a doubt.
Oh dear, I seem to have done something rash & entered this! Since I don't want to have to get up at silly o'clock to get over from Chesterfield any local information on where to stay the night before?
The Church Inn, Prestwich. Home of the MNPR and venue of the original HTN brain [s]fart[/s] storm back in 2006. It has B&B, is about a mile from the venue and if you ask them nicely I'm sure they will lock up your bike in a store room.
In other news, I can't make it on the 25th and I'm gutted.
Oh dear, I seem to have done something rash & entered this!
It isn't an experience that you will forget in a hurry... In a good way.
Right, that's me signed up.
See you all there! I'll be the confused and nervous looking first timer 😯
Fear not little one, the gnarled and grizzled old lags will help tutor you in the ways of righteousness
How old do you have to be to enter ? My son fancies it along with myself and was wondering how old you have to be ?
Anyone shed a little light on it ?
True, and in years to come you will meet a random cyclist on a distant hillside and exchange "the look". Not a sound will be uttered, but you will both understand.Fear not little one, the gnarled and grizzled old lags will help tutor you in the ways of righteousness
As old at minipips? He's 11. and will do better than most here.
Better than most? Minipips is going to wipe the floor with 95% of the field!
Was trying not to crush everyones spirit so far in advance...
Me and my brother are in. 🙂
On the British Cycling site it wants riders to be 18 years old can I just alter that bit to suit my 14 year old son ?
id drop terranawk/jase a mail to check beforehand. theres a contact form on the website, though hell prob see this
mail sent , Thanks
only 30 places left!
Blimey!
29 now hopefully.
🙂
Was going to wait till I got paid on Friday, glad I didn't now.
No one answering
Help any one in control please ?
Sent mail but no resonse as yet.
So what's the minimum age to enter please ??
Thanks Si
not had an email.
What address are you sending it to?
annnyway. Under 18s can ride as long as they're accompanied by an adult (that's you) at ALL TIMES. Obviously Richpips and Tom are ok cos they're on a tandem.
You'll also need to sign a disclaimer.
And enter the race. ]
Hope that clears things up.
ta.
Super thanks for clearing that up Terra
Preview ride on Monday evening.
Bing money for a pint and some lights.

Preview ride on Monday evening.
Unless by some miracle it's dry between now and the 26th, if you haven't got any, I'd invest in some skinny mud tyres 😉
I'm no longer able to come and be a marshal 🙁
The weather forecast is looking good for Saturday, have fun in the sun everyone 🙂
Boo hiss! Who am I going to stop and have a chat too now? 😥
In other news, its been raining pretty much unceasingly for about a week now, and shows no signs of stopping. I think it might be a tad slippy underfoot
Bike welly boots arrived yesterday, shorty and beaver, though not sure anything short of a half track will be enough...
Binners, I'll be stopping at a great many points throughout the race to [s]cough up a lung[/s] have a natter, I may not be as sparkling a conversationalist as bunnyhop though...
Haha, I'm usually the one shouting insults as you all try to concentrate on one of the more life threatening, perilous, drops of doom.
Binners - keep our team spirit alive, I'm counting on you. How is the carbo loading coming on? Plenty of pies and pastys I hope 😀
Looking forward to this now. Mud tyres very much in place - not that I expect it to make much difference. I'll be on a Boardman Pro, with a pistonheads jersey probably - say hello!
Conditions update:
Well this morning I started my training programme in earnest. I nipped out for a jaunt and after a couple of miles my bike looked like this:
I believe the term is 'claggy'. Though this is a massive improvement on "I'm not ****ing going out there in this!", which its been for the last two weeks. Its going to be carnage! 😀
But I did manage to get my bike decked out with my sponsors logos....
Something to provide me with motivation, and keep me like TOTALLY stoked! 😀
Right... I'm off to the pub! See you tomorrow!
Assuming my dodgy back lets me take part, I'll have 2 rubber ducks sitting on top of my helmet. And I'll be trundling along slowly....
I'll see your rubber ducks and raise you a squeeky chipmunk i've just put on my bars, to save me constantly shouting 'ELITE RACER COMING THROUGH!!!!' 😀
I'm really wishing that I could be there now. I'll be thinking of you lot whilst I'm doing something boring as hell.
Have a good one!
I'm Buzzing! Just hope its as good as the previous ones!
I've just had a major component of my prerace nutrition plan, some (bloody lovely) pork and black pudding pie. Left over Colin the caterpillar birthday cake later.
Might have some sports biscuits later too. Because affaleet.
That sounds ace!
Is gammon, egg, chips and beans, washed down with Shiraz technically classed as carb loading? If not, then a double sausage and egg macmuffin in the morning is, right?
Unfortunately I'm not going to make it! My hip flexor went on me on Tuesday! 🙁 I'm only just able to get in & out the car without being in serious pain! The thought of riding a bike for 2 hours doesn't bear thinking about! Gutted!!
High protein, carbs and fibre, bloody hell binners, that's practically trying! Your cover is blown, I've long suspected you're actually an elite rider who's super modest before a race, then tears the legs off everyone. Even pre riding the course!
I assume your mcmuffin will be laced with something from a predelivered Tupperware box?
Guinness and steak pie with chips. That's carb loading right??
Now off? to the shop to stock up on Jelly babies to eat and share with the Marshalls on my way round (any excuse for a breather!)
I was in 2 minds about doing it because I've had a bad back and am hideously unfit but now I feel compelled to look out for Binners' chipmunk!
Right, final race preparation completed: oiled the propellor on the small plastic aeroplane zip-tied to my helmet. I am going to look well pro. 😀
(I promise not to do my best not to fall off in front of any genuinely fast people...)
If it's that claggy, the fast riders will have made a clear line by the time the rest of us get thru...
Or it will be a foot deep
pretty sure i am going to die tomorrow. see you all there!
Bloody hell Hells, that's not good! 😥 Hope you get sorted soon
Vicky, no mater how unfit you (think you) are, you're in serious competition here. Everyone gets a honk of the chipmunk as they lap me (again!). I suspect you'll hear it repeatedly! 🙂
I'm currently pre loading ibuprofen and some 4yr expired co codamol.
I'm thinking of washing it down with some single malt.
My breakfast plan I think is greenaulghs....
Hip flask will be out during the race...
Fair play Dunc!
Can I just put it out there that post ride/race/whatevoooo is at the Church in Prestwich.
We've managed to forgive them for removing the pie fridge. Just!
Cheers binners! Live to ride another day. Got my annual trip to HONC in 2 weeks, so I have to be sensible about this one!! Currently treating it with combination therapy; Ibuprofen & beer!! It's feeling much better today than earlier in the week so I seem to be on the mend!
i'm gonna be parking by the church anyway Ads, i'm on call tomorrow so may have to get to my car before the race is over...
I've been marking out the course all afternoon - and I can report that the course (apart from a couple of perma-bogs) is DRY and FAST.
And I've caught the sun.
See y'all tomoz!
When you say FAST, you're factoring us in? I think of myself as a technical obstacle for the fast boys. A (barely) mobile chicane.
