Ridden both in the harder compounds really like em but can I justify twice the price for the hr2

I use a conti baron for slop at inners/glentress - its pretty sloppy there at the moment and the way the weather is going at the mo it will be staying that way lol maybe a short or baron would be a better buy?

You'll want a mid or full mud spike for Day 1, Day 2 will probably be fine on a CM - but you might find it clogs up a bit on some of the stages.
Mixed conditions tyre is what you want. The HR2 isn't that either.
Shorty or Magic Mary on the front, and DHR2/HD/MM/NN on the rear probably.

happy with hr2 on the back, not a fan of hans dampf in the mud as i find they clog and, mms quite draggy, on those looong transitions, never liked nobby nics, i just know that i wont get away with an ardent on the back

I've both the HR and CM, and for Inners off-piste it'd be the HR - although if it's been wet the week before and you're a 'contender' then I'd look at something more spiky.
FWIW I find the CM a bit 'floaty' in mud.
I am not a contender, I just dont wanna be on my arse all the time!

Depends on what you mean by mixed conditions, but the Shorty or Mary is dar better in the mixed conditions category.
well what do you mean by mixed conditions, im thinkingmud, root, rock, hardpack etc
I'm thinking MM day 1 and DHF day 2 regardless of mud conditions. DHF still copes well with mud if not too sticky but is way better than the MM for loose over hard (man mad trail stuff). MM side knobs a bit too tall and squirms/floats if pushed hard.
Crossmark on the back for both days as it's ace for doing skids. 🙂
Chunky Monkey is a very grippy tyre on slippy surfaces however it has a relatively shallow tread compared to DHF or MM so Not so good in mud or deep dust/sand.
right so wheres cheap for a high roller and a shorty then....

I tried a HR2 on the back with a shorty, I was delighted when the HR started to crack as I could get a refund. Was a decent tyre descending, but climbing anything slippy at all was a joke.
Replaced with a smorgasbord, a far better combo with the shorty, even if it does break 'the rules'.... 😀
