Just been out in the forest to clear a fallen tree from one of the runs that sometimes gets used for instructing and I started to wonder about the width of some of it. The top section (1/8 mile) is the steepest part and the visable / obvious line is down to about 10" wide in places. The track is wider but the line isn't that obvious, so often gets missed.
The botton section (1/4 mile) widens to around a foot and a half, it's also slightly flatter with more roots but less rocks.
Should I widen the top section or leave it alone? It's perfectly rideable but obviously for most riders they need to reduce their speed ... what would you prefer, narrow/slower/technical or wider/faster?
Cheers
wide enough for 1.5 sheep to walk along side by side
Nice answer rd ... I'm off out into the fields with my tape measure, I reckon a ewe and one of this years lambs should equate to 1.5 sheep ๐
2.35inches.... same as my tyres with an extra 1/2inch to allow for a different line choice... any wider and you'd be accommodating the fancypants XC mincers with 85ltr rucksacks on their backs/
i like mine narrow and high up
Is that 1.5 sheeep pre or post shearing ??
As wide or as narrow as it comes - it's not my trail - I'm just passing through
Generally what Grapefruit said.
It's good if novices need to slow down initially. The more they ride the trail the faster they'll get, gives a sense of achievement when they do finally nail it.

singletrack width makes no difference unless you are one of those "mustn't ever deviate from the the sheep line" kinda riders (or it's wooden and high up)
