i would be cra**ing myself, trying to ride these (most likely dead though).
Just ask Tony...
Its what he does for a living...
Book on one of his courses, and I'm sure he'll square you away...
Insane.
I involuntarily said "Jesus!" at least 3 times during that clip!
awesome............but i just don't get it.
not cos i can't do it either.

And did he appear??
Like Beetlejuice???
Er, well, my dog walked in the room and nudged me with her nose. But I think she was just reminding me to take her out for a walk. 🙂
yep have a chat with jedi. he runs courses and has his own shore set up!!
man i cannot even wheelie (and i'm 34) 😳 i just never bothered to learn,but i will wheelie one day,and bunnyhop. 😆
Amazing skills, but like ton I don't get it either ? Just reminds me of circus trick riding.
its not that hard to be honest. it folllows the same physical/mental skills rules as everyother factor in mtbing but the physcological factors are greater.
the guy who built that in the video is the godfather of north shore
bows@dan cowan
Its only like riding on the pavement innit?
My involuntary mutterings rhymed with huck ;-o
I don't get it either. However amazing it is, and skillful, and ballsy, I just don't understand the appeal of tightrope walking on 6 inch travel mountain bikes. Wide, fast twisty stuff, big jumps and drops, hell yes;- I don't pretend to be able to do any of it but I wish I could. I don't wish I could totter about, 8 ft up in the air, like some desperate pirate forced to cycle the plank.
If I do develop the desire to wobble about at half a mile an hour, knowing a fall will fracture my hip, I'll wait until I'm eighty then go for a walk.
thank god it's not for everyone.
jedi, i don't think i could ever do it.
lack of skill, lack of balance, top heavy............ 😆
and i like to look at the scenery when i ride, not my front tyre.... 8)
People like Dan and Tony are just selfish. They have no concern, what so ever, for normal folk who can't do the real scary shit and who are grumpy and jealous about it 😉 Tips cap at you sirs.
ton, you can see the pub from some of my stuff 🙂
😆
I honestly don't think i could ride any of that not even the rocky bits.
we went to go to bowen island 2yrs ago to ride it but it was raining. not the place to go in non perfect conditions
Not that impressed myself as I not that they are doing it on flats and not on real pedals (SPD's). 😆
some do it in clips and straps!
This has some "north shore" along with a sprinkling of "death wish" ❗ 😕
[url=
yeah looks fun eh 🙂
This has some "north shore" along with a sprinkling of "death wish"insane
Can you see the FC allowing this kind of stuff?
depends.
norths hore constructions should be an option on a trail not THE trail.
until people understand that i doubt it
Its the skinny bits that gives me sweaty hands.
dans stuff is high but not super skinny
Respect!
It looks cool, wouldn't catch me doing it though, but much respect to those that can and do.
Is Dan Cowan the one they call "Dangerous Dan".
yeah
Dare i say, ride the bike like you stole it? sorry bad joke probably!
I always check howmuch sick pay i have left before i bike something tricky as work don't approve of my hobby!
That vid looks very skinny to me especially considering the height..eek!
ride it like you got it back!
Best comment yet: I don't wish I could totter about, 8 ft up in the air, like some desperate pirate forced to cycle the plank.
class 😉
i prefer the 80yr old comment 🙂

im not trolling, honest, but missing the point of north shore somewhat.
missing what point?
missing the point of north shore somewhat
You could (hopefully) easily ride along a kerbstone and the baby shore I rode was about that wide, just a bit further to fall - once I got the 'you're not going to fall' thought into my head, guess what - I stopped falling, haven't done anything like the clips shown but do plan to have a more serious go sometime and see just how much/little bottle I've actually got...........
north shore is (traditionally) used over pieces of ground where a "ground" trail cannot be built, because the ground is too soft, or wet, or building a trail would disturb the ground too much (over streams and rivers?)
so to have a ground level trail next to it would deem it a bit pointless.
i know i know, its a pointless game anyway, but even in british trail centres, the NS sections tend to be where its needed, not just a "feature" dont they?
I want a go 😀
Reckon I could ride the lot eventually if it was 2ft off the ground rather than 8ft+. Height is a massive difficulty multiplier.
Olly - just another branch of slow tech riding in my book. You use a lot of the same skills on slender alpine singletrack with super tight switchbacks and lots of exposure. Good way to refine your balance and handling.
olly, i dont get what you're saying.
having ridden the north shore bc the trails many have multiple lines/options. northshore over a stream/river is just a bridge
Origionally some 'shore' was put in to get over wet ground/sensitive areas but over time trail builders have developed it into a new 'sport'.
Pretty clever and admirable in my book - some of the Herts lines are some of the toughest challenging riding you can do anywhere - big up to Jedi and his crew for what they have achieved there.
A lot of it is just "in your mind" - when you're 6' (on a ramp) off the ground your head is where? 11-12'up? Now that's gotta mess with anybodys head!!
NS is ace and much of it is in the mind - like riding on the white line of a road...only 20 feet up or whatever!
I've had a few "zen" moments myself where you get confident and free yourself of the fear (when riding about 2 feet up), amazing feeling, tough to achieve though.
