I never use granny wheel.
Ordered a new hope chainring and was thinking about 1x10 and loosing the mech a granny wheel. Can't be much too it.?
I'd look at some sort of chain guide if it's a standard (not narrow/wide) chainring (you *may* still need a guide with a non-clutch mech too but try and see)
You may need shorter chainring bolts too.

it should be ok.
I have NW chainrings on two bikes without clutch mech - I very occasionally lose the chain on the FS bike (will be fitting a guide) but the other one is fine.
Great! I use my bike for commute (different wheel set) and at cannock. I can't remember the last time I dropped to bottom ring!
