[#790941]

Dear all, with some deep regrets and due to injury I am trying to sell off my bikes. My beloved Litespeed Kitsuma was sold for £520 posted, and then I see this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Litespeed-Kitsuma-Ti-Titanium-Frame_W0QQitemZ170372830523QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item27ab03153b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

do I think
a) good luck to the individual and in a capalistic society these things happen
b) I thought it was going to a good home with a rider who would cherish and use the bike to its ability and feel kicked in the b!"*"

Answers please!

c: you undervalued it.

probably a) assuming that you weren't sold a sob story which made you sell it for less than you would otherwise have asked for.

It sucks but he hasn't sold it for that: I think its overpriced. How old was the frame? Sure its a good frame but you could buy a new ti frame for the same or little more.

Sold some forks on here a while back for a cheap price: they were on eBay before he confirmed he got them as he attmpted to make a quick buck. Unfortunately things didn't really go his way and they were re-listed about 3 times using various accounts before he sold them...he probably made about £20 in the end

He might get his auction pulled by eBay if they see what he says about Paypal.

d: they think you underpriced it and have subsequently overpriced it.

I wouldn't worry about it, as there is asking price, and selling price. and there is not way he is going to get £1000 for it.

Its easy to buy and not so easy to sell stuff

Look at it another way - you cannot ride it, you a have a pile of light pipes in the shed welded expertly by a midget in the US, you swap that for £520. This £520 is usable to you the pipes are not. Get on with it and stop feeling sorry for your self!

The frame was 01/02 cost $2,700 dollars is correct, as memory serves me correct, quality really outshines most frames bar merlin

£999 seems awfully high... I know it's no longer in production and is a tad rare, but still. I certainly wouldn't pay that 🙄

It is a bit of a pisser though, 'spirit of the classifieds' and all that... I bet the new owner doesn't make a contribution to STW for his 90% + profit (if he gets it...)

cost $2,700 dollars is correct,

So about £1600 at current exchange rates. Based on the usual 50% off in first year then dropping 10% for every other year, think your price was about right for a classsifieds sale price. Forget it and move on...you did alright on the sale imho.

Anyone who gets the auction pulled using the paypal bit is out of order.

Did the frames new owner stipulate how you should spend the money you got from the frame sale?

No so why are in a sense suggesting what the new owner should do with their part of the deal? You got your money, what the new owner decides to do is upto them- crush the frame, hang pink bits off, stick it up his arse, etc etc etc etc.

You both agreed a price. Deal done. Whats the problem?

might go against the "spirit" of STW classifieds, but you sold it for a sum you were happy to take for it. If you wanted to maximise your profit you should have put it on ebay, most people who use the classifieds seem to be aware of that, and sell here because they aren't desperate to make every last penny and feel a sense of community.

I think the best anwer to this was posted years ago by mrmichaelwright of this manor who said something along the lines of;

"I bought some bananas from Sainsbury's for two quid last week. Turns out they had bought them off some bloke in Africa for tuppence!"

Sorry to hear you aren't riding but you got what you wanted/the best offer for the frame. you could have ebayed it yourself.

Why not 'name and shame'? (assuming it was bought off here).

I wouldn't feel anything about it at all. Sounds like he bought it in good faith, it's not the right size for him, he's been open about that, now he's selling it as it's no use to him. If he can get a grand for it then good luck to him. Is he using the same photos as you?

I came close to offering you £500 for it but spent far too long agonising over it. If it makes you feel any better I would have ridden it myself or sold it on for what I paid

really not sure where the problem is here - even if the guy selling it on ebay hasn't even tried it - he says it's too big.

If it doesn't fit him. What should he do? Leave it in his garage?
You'd think he'd put it back up for sale here for what he paid for it. But if he thinks he can get more on the bay of e, then good luck to him.

good luck to him.
you sould it fair and square.

i know people who do it as a living, buying stuff and then selling it on for more at a more targeted market.

would you have felt so miffed about it "not going to a good home" if he had bought it and binned it into a tree on the first ride and smashed it?

Some fair and just comments here, the issue for me is the spirit of the classifieds, most people buy and sell stuff in a manner that relects the mtb community, reasonable and open, a lot of people swop and change all the time most losing money so the idea profiteers are lurking out there in the classifieds irks me slightly. I realise and recognise we live in a monetary society and this is all fair, and olly no it would not miff me if the bike was smashed on the first ride at least some one was using it appropiatley. Hora quite right it is upto the individual what they do with the frame but you ahve haggled enough to know that some items transcend cash and are wrapped up in emotions. Maybe it was too big but to put a 40% mark up on seems or makes me feel like I was talking to a trader all along, private sellers but professional buyers. But it seems all is fair in love and the classifieds.
C'est la vie!

I'm guessing their stw username is remarkably similar to the ebay one

(I'd be narked if I'd been talked down from my asking price on a bullshit story but not otherwise. Yeh, there are several "pros" on here as somebody said)

Have you seen the cassette he's got on too? Now I might be wrong but if that's "not worn" I've thrown away a load of perfectly good Shimano kit over the years 'cos it looked a lot less worn than that.

hicksville - as another Litespeed owner, I can empathise with your feelings. I consider mine a bike for life but we do not live in an ideal world.

We all have our own personal principles and it's a jolly good job we do. Some folk have none, which is appalling. What goes around comes around, is the old saying.

You have enjoyed the use of a Litespeed and they are a fantastic bike. Some people will never know. Keep good memories, and keep well.

If you tap the ebay name into search then you come up with a member who seems to sell a fair bit of kit from the classifieds , so I'd say it's highly likely it was bought from you with the full intention of being re-sold.

However as others mentioned you asked and recieved what you'd percieved to be a reasonble price for it , put it down to experience . You're hardly likely to sell something on the classifieds with the stipulation that 'under no circumstances must you resell this item for a profit'

I'd reccomend doing a completed items search on ebay before selling and price slightly lower (if you feel generous)

The poor guy doesn't seem to have a lot of luck in finding a frame that fits him
I'm sure something will turn up one day

Jeeesus. Hes abit out on all his pricing isnt he, even if you account for selling on for profit?!!!!!

The Stumpy would be £150 IMO.

Ive just sold a Chameleon frame for £175+post. Same age frame just went for £311 on ebay. Do I feel 'cheated'? No. You sell at a lower price for a quick sale and to avoid the hassle of Ebay.

Spirit of STW trading? What is that? You lower your price when you want a hassle-free quick sale. Who cares who it goes to. Same with a house. You don't chose a buyer based on their CV or personality- its their money.

When people grumble that 'MR and Mrs Jones' sold upto some Asians I do ****ing laugh. Why? Should they vet the buyers to meet their soon to be ex-neighbours approval?!

There's a difference between putting something up on Ebay and actually getting that price.

I do believe he frequents ''retro bike forum'' so probably no doubt got his rediculous way out pricing policy from them lot over there ----->

Oh and if anyone wants to know how cheap he bought the Merlin for then do a search on retrobike, iirc it was something like £600/650.
I mean surely you go and sit on a bike like that and try it on for size before committing to the purchase.

I'm affraid it does suck balls when something like this happens.

The guy is obviously a jerk off who doesn't really ride bikes nor treats them as a sport/hobby, merely a money making opportunity for him. 🙄

Nough said!

C'mon, maybe he has my 'suck it and see' approach to bike buying - only difference is that when I decide something isn't for me and sell it on I make a massive loss 😕 . I sold my dented Coiler frame for peanuts on ebay last year but I'd been totally honest and included lots of pics of the damage. Couple of weeks later though it was back up and made an extra £150 (using my pics and description of how the damage occurred) - luck of the draw I guess.

Annoying yes, but what can you do?

After a quick look down his ebay history you can see he buys a lot of whole bikes and then splits and sells on the parts. So it's obviously a business thing. Ok on ebay........ BUT if he's doing this from the classifieds on STW then maybe the mods should have a word, as it is meant to be for private sellers, not people trying to make a quick buck.

Get over it, you screwed up and sold it too low, he'll be buggered by the high price more than likely and eventually it'll go somewhere in between. In hte mean time you've bought something useful and enjoyed its use and he has had chance to try a frame in a certain size and find he didn't like it.

Do you keep track of all your old cars to make sure no-one re-sells them at a profit too?
