Try some paint stripper if it's just powder in the threads.

Worked for me when they coated my bb threads.

Paint stripper might not touch powder coating. You might be able to pick it out or its a five minute job in the lbs with the right tool

Anotherstan - it can be fixed - maybe just chasing the thread again - cheap - or a threaded insert - expensive or a threadless bb is available

...threadless bb is available

do you mean a pushfit or something similar? wouldn't i need to completely remove the remaining threads for that to work (not really sure how they work 😕 )

by the way tj, my helmet saved my life on monday at kirroughtree 😉

I think Charlie the BikeMonger does a threadless BB - the two sides basically tighten against each other rather than relying on the threads. Worth an email.

I'm sure I've heard of framebuilders gluing in a new threaded shell into alloy bbs. No idea how much.

i installed a BB incorrectly resulting in messing up the BB threads in the frame. i went to my LBS and they re-threaded the BB for around £15-20 and all works again.

I have a thread chasing tool, though I've never had the chance to try it out as I'm too hard on my bearings 🙂

If you are a regular at your LBS then they should be able to sort it out for not too many £££'s.

Green Nitromors will do it. Use a stanley blade to break the continuity between the paint you want to strip and the paint you want to keep. on the BB this will be the outer edge of the BB face.

If you don't do this, the pain stripper can swell the paint you want to keep.
