[#6197430]

Just looking back over some old photo's and found one of my current bike when I 1st built it up. I bought the frame 2nd hand for a few hundred but it's surprising looking at the 1st pic just how much has changed on it in 18 months. The only things from the original pic are the cassette, chain and saddle. How much has your bike changed?
Then:

Now (in DH mode):

Are you sure that's the same bike? ๐Ÿ˜‰

@ stevied - You wouldn't have even thought that was the same bike ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

That's a really impressive transformation.

The only thing that usually changes on mine are tyres. I'm not very adventurous and tend to just keep to the components I know work for me.

It's Trigger's bike.

I don't know enough about shocks, or DH - is that aircan better for DH than the coil ?

[s]My bike used to love me when we first met, now it just teases me for not being good enough to get the full potential out of it and breaks down about "not being looked after like it should". It still looks like the same bike to my friends and like I enjoy riding it as much but I know it's changed and that I new bike would love me like the old one used to.[/s]

Oh that's not what you meant. New saddle, dropper post, wheels, cassette - oh hang on easier to say frame is the same, forks have been for a few years.

@scaredypant: The old 5th Element coil that came with it was good but had the CTD PUSHed @ TF and it's a complete revelation, much more controlled. I was going to keep the 5th for DH days but found the CTD was better and nearly 700g's lighter..

My 456Ti is in its 6th year and only the steerer spacers and front mech are original to the build.

Plus since moving from the Home Counties to the Scottish Borders it's gain 4lb due mainly to the tougher terrain breaking lighter-weight stuff and the need for tougher tyres etc.

A couple years ago.

Nowadays...
[img] [/img]

Only thing I've changed is the bars, stem, wheels, tyres, forks, saddle, post, cranks, oh, and the frame...
That was a small frame, this is a medium.
Pedals are the same ๐Ÿ˜€

The Reverb, stem and bars are the only original parts from when I first built my Nicolai 29er 18 months ago. I'm on my third shock, third set of forks, second drive train, second wheel set, third set of brakes. I'm pretty happy with the current set up so for the sake of my bank balance I hope I can leave it alone for a few months.

Not as much change as I thought (other than wheels - those Azonics weighed a ton - and the colour scheme). Must have got the build pretty much right first time.

EDIT. Having said that, looking again there's different wheels, tyres, brakes, seatpost, saddle, stem, bars, grips and chain device.

March 2012.

My current hard tail is pretty much the same sort of thing as my first mtb. 16" frame, 120mm travel, single ringand fun/jump biased. First bike was a trailstar, this is a blender. Main improvement has been narrow/wide and clutch. Really surprised and impressed at how well this works and that it isnt just marketing bollocks.

Now:

Everything's changed except for frame, forks, seatpost, saddle and brakes.

So, pretty much the whole cockpit, forks, shock and rear wheel

Hmm, I dunno, not that much by the look of it, but the only original bits are the frame and that seatpost (the cranks look similar (and indeed are contemporaries), but they are not the same set).

April 1992 (when it was about 2 weeks old):

Now (via multiple, different setups in the intervening years):

A fair bit...

When first built

[IMG] [/IMG]

Now...

[IMG] [/IMG]

So I've changed the forks, grips, chain ring, rear mech, shifter, cassette, chain, chainring, ditched the chain guide, pedals and saddle. Also got some new tyres on the way.

My ht, it's only the frame, headset, seat collar and rear skewer that are original.

I bought a ragley marley frame at Xmas but can't bring myself to ditch the voodoo.

My fast road bike (bought in August 2013) is sporting the same frame, fork, headset and bottom bracket bearings as it was when it left the shop.

That's it.

Which is how it looks now. The only original bits of the frame alone are the RH seatstay & chainstay.

EDIT, can't get the Mk 2 photo up but It was white with Rock Shox forks. (the cheap ones)

Bang in the middle of a full rebuild of mine. The parts that are carrying over from the last version would fit in a shoebox. But it's definitely not a new bike ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is very nearly the first version- it had a set of 140mm Revelations on beforehand

This is pretty recent

IMAG0203 by Northwindlowlander, on Flickr

Had a new dropper post and some drivetrain tweaks since then, oh and I did put a mech back in it and replace a bunch of spokes ๐Ÿ˜ณ Those wheels couldn't cut it so they were replaced with a set of Fulcrum Red Zones, too.

Only thing I've changed is chain cassette and jockey wheels, debating new tyres... Still using the same saddle that was on it when it came out of the shop.

10 months old, swapped grips, dropped a mech some chain rings, grown a 40t and swapped a damper. Not much really

Well the only things I've got from the original build are frame and fork, literally. Changed seatclamp, headset, grips etc. but I never rode it in the stock spec (or actually attached most of the bits), so it's not really a fair 'change'.
