Hi Guys, I'm curious. How much do you spend during a year with the bike? I mean, with accessories, up grade, clothes...?

Far far too much! Including events and associated travel and what not it's into the thousands, I'd rather not know the actual figure!

Dread to think probably £2000 - £3000 on average, but I wouldn't be surprised if it worked out to be more 😐

I’m trying to stay as close to cost neutral with the bikes as possible, so no new bikes unless funded by the sale of an old one at the minute, as we have bigger financial commitments to worry about and I don’t fancy getting into any debt any time soon…

Me and the missus have had a mutual agreement since January we each get £50 a month “allowance” to waste on whatever we fancy, under spend/don’t spend it one month you can roll it onto next month, with mine I buy bike parts, lights and clothing mostly, she wastes hers on bags and jewellery from what I can tell…

Thus far this is working out OK it’s stopped me burning cash on bike stuff I don’t absolutely need, and obviously I can flog old kit to supplement my “allowance”…

So I guess £600-ish a year, except that doesn’t include fuel for travelling to races/riding venues or any other costs like race entries, trail fees etc, so probably closer to £1K maybe, which ain’t great really… need to reign that in somehow… And that’s without any alpine trips in the foreseeable future…

Don't need any upgrades having just built new HT 😀 and have plenty of bike clothes so planning on 1-2 sets of tyres, chain/cassete/front ring, various lubes/bike potions, set of disc pads - probably about £2-300 all in fro a years riding.
Tend to only buy to keep bike running well rather than for blinging, riding is far more fun than shopping 😉

I've saved every receipt for my bike purchases this year to see what i get through each month. Couple of hundred quid usually but then i built up 2 new bikes last summer so most of the recent expense was last year.

I did notice though that over the last 5 years i have ordered 92 times off CRC and no doubt a load more from other companies like Wiggle and Merlin etc.... But then i don't really waste my money on anything else except bikes so i'm happy with my expenditure on them.

Hmm.. interesting one that!!

Events £130 (Mayhem, 24/12, ESSC, FOD Enduro)

Kit £200 (Helmet, a few tops, new shorts, gloves)

Bits £500(?) (Pedals, Shifters and Mechs, Cassette, Chain, Tubes(!), Multi-Tool, Seat Pack, Energy Bars & Drink, Mini Pump)

It's been a bit heavier than normal this year as I'm going from SS to geared 🙄

That's so far though...

You should't feel too bad, cycling isn't a particularly cheap hobby, but can you imagine the answer to this question on a motor racing site or a motorbike site...

"Better than spending it on prostitutes" as I sometimes have to resort to when exaplaining the bank ballance to my wife. 😈

Probably make a profit! I save £40 a week on fuel by riding to work and don't spend anywhere near £2k on bike stuff in a year, even with my addiction to Rapha gear.

my LBS account total (paid account not credit) is approx five grand in five years including four bikes.

one is CTW scheme and another was an insurance payout after the first got nicked.

I used to spend loads before I got married.

These days I'm the same as Cookeaa - I get pocket money except I have to use it to pay my phone bill and anything else that we as a couple dont benefit collectively from.

As a result I have precious little to spend on my bike these days and I'm all to aware that the cumulative cost of a few trail side snacks, car parking if I go to a trail centre not to mention petrol makes riding a costly business.
