the title says it all??? currently ride a commencal mini dh and am thinking of selling the frame and swapping the build over to a five 2011 frame with maxle, i would be using vanilla 36 so no travel adjustment. from peoples experience how would it cope with innerliethen, forest of ae dh etc. i know it a trail bike but i was just wondering how it would handle freeride and dh trails. how do you think it will climb with the 36's???

I got one they seem to take a lot of hammer. Have you seen the Mojo trail diaries because they take them some rough places

You can call a Commencal a "reeking french ****" and it'll cry. The Orange just shrugs and says "your mum's a screamer mate".

For what you want, I'd say you'd be better off with an Alpine 160.

Ditto Stevomcd. My Alpine takes all my clumsy abuse.

AJ (with a helmet cam) - Giant DH thing
Rowan Sorrell - Orange 5 constantly stopping for AJ to catch up

The reason I'm getting a 5!

When I returned from a Welsh disaster with a broken Rocky Mountain frame (stress point just below the rear suspension rocker link in the seat tube) I went straight to my LBS.

After a quick glance the guy said "Hmm. How soon do you want your 5?"

You're buying a 5 because rowan sorrell is an awesome rider...some reason. He's broken one or two 5s, but that not a surprise when you see how he rides it.

Judging by a lot of threads on here about it recently it seems to have taken a lot of abuse.

Bear in mind that the newest models are built with a 140mm fork in mind, the 160mm 36's would take it slacker than an alpine 160.
If your mainly using it for fr and dh then the alpine 160 sounds better suited and will be loads lighter than your mini dh.
If your after a trail bike that'll take a bit of extra hammer then go for the five.
I have loads of confidence in the capabilities of my pike equipped five, either way you won't regret it, never quite understood the mini dh - weight of a dh bike without the travel!

Yeah you should be looking at the Alpine, seems very versatile judging by how my mate rides his.
