Are you the sort who is conscious of the next frame of do you just cut it to suit the frame you have?
I'm mildly tempted to buy a new large 29er frame & I have just collected a new set of forks for my existing frame, so should I err on the side of caution & leave the steerer long, or just cut it so it fits the bike?
Does anyone have an idea of the possible difference between an OO frame & pretty much all of the other manufacturers? I was possible thinking along the lines of leaving 30mm of spacers over/under the stem, does this seem sensible?

Oh, the one off bike

Are you trying to be ironic, or are you hung like a [s]horse[/s] Hora?

200mm is a safe bet, headsets and stem stack vary as do headtube height so allow some slack. I've got 15mm below and 10mm above the stem.

Because of my size I need an xl size frame, so I need one with a steerer of around 230 - 250mm long. These don't tend to exist unless they are new, so second hand ones never turn up. Shame.
