I need to do the above, how easy is it? Also what happens when it is rooted? Is it less secure?

You might be able to get someone to hold your hand, as it were. Just rooting it, shouldn't be too difficult for a first timer. You might want to ask about how easy it is to brick the phone tho. If you read thru the threads you should be able to find out if there's an unlock yet. It's a very new launched phone I believe, so possibly no one has found an unlock, but there will be people trying to unlock it.
No one has managed to unlock my OMC yet, so having to wait 3 months to get the unlock code from Orange.
