just picked up some Pikes with a firm spring and considering swapping it back to a standard rate.
Big job?
5 minute job
VERY easy - TFtuned has a page on their website, pics and everything
(lots of people will fancy a go of your firm spring too !)
very easy, keep the forks horizontal and you don't have to change the oil either.
The only slightly tricky part can be getting those tiny ball bearings out from under the u-turn dial (a magnetic screwdriver will help!)
very easy. As above, Tftuned guide is excellent. Horizontal is best: if you have time removing the fork from the bike makes this infinitely easier and if you are at all cack-handed the brake calliper too as the pads are close to where oil comes out... You will need a syringe or a funnel and a steady hand if you do lose the oil on the garage floor (do i sound like i speak from experience?) and any 15w motorbike fork oil will do if you need it. You will also find plenty of people willing to buy your firm spring on classifieds if you sell it for reasonably less than the £40 from tftuned. (*wishes he was light enough for a medium spring....*)
Unless the Pikes are totally different from the other RS forks, there's no need to undo the lower/ keep the forks horizontal.
Undo the top cap on the left leg with a 24mm socket
Compress the forks and the spring should appear
Remove, grease the new spring and insert.
Replace the top cap.

BoardinBob; you do have to undo the lower bolt to remove the spring, hence others have suggested keeping them horizontal.
Hmmm. Didn't have to do it on my Toras or u-turn Recons
Pikes are different, the spring goes through the whole length of the fork.

I done this yesterday, easy job even for a novice like myself. I followed the TFTuned guide.
Oh and my Standard Spring is on the Classifieds 😉

I thought it was all u-turn forks (compare recon u-turn springs to those on the non-uturn domain)
Anybody who wants a nice easy step-by-step guide to follow, please email me....
🙂
yeah its easy job, there's a spring going for 1p on ebay too
cheers all for that.
