You've already talked me into buying new forks instead of switching bikes so now I need to know how to fix my other major problem.
I have a Stumpjumper with a BB30 bottom bracket. Plastic cups, fragile bearings etc... I've just killed my 4th one in two years. Even when they're new they make a hell of a racket after some weather.
I know there are adapter kits available but I'm not sure what I need. I just want to be able to use a BB that won't be so irritatingly noisy. And will I still be able to use my Sram carbon cranks or will the adapter kit reduce the axle diameter? I'm willing to switch to some XT or SLX having not had any trouble with Shimano BB's in the past.
So what do I need to buy?
If I can solve the creaky BB and bendy fork I'll be happy for the foreseeable future.

would need new cranks though. I'm sure other options exist though.
That Raceface one looks the part but there's two on CRC so I'll have to make sure I get the right one.
That one on Merlin looks like what I have just for a different size axle. I'd be scared in case it was just as fragile.
My CRC basket is getting damn heavy.
I have jus had that race face one fitted to my bike and it does seem very good though I aren't ridden it yet.
Also look at these:

Which I had on previously but the SRAM bb failed, and instead of replacing under warranty I had the race face instead.
I still have the wheels manufacturing cups if you won't to buy them-they are much better quality than that specialized adapter...
Going through the same thought process myself for my Stumpy. There seem to be three types of adaptor (examples here).
Reducer bushings - allow different cranks but stuck with same bearings
Replacement units - clamp through the frame
Push in threaded reducers - allow normal BB to be threaded in - but I'm not sure if the spacing will be the same etc
Haven't pushed the button any one myself yet but probably will next time my BB wears out.
I fitted one of these:
FSA Press Fit BB30 Adapter
It comes with a tube of retaining compound, it pressed (by that I mean tapped in with wood) easily and has been in the bike for a few months now and seems to be doing well, there was no movement even when tightening my shimano BB into it!!
Seems like one of the cheapest ways......
I sold my bike.
Mmmm that Hope gizmo looks like the ticket. Will they take an eternity to be released though?
These are in stock Praxis Works BB30 converter
Bigmantrails has it, that FSA adaptor is great.
also have a stumpjumper with PF30 BB (its not BB30 as you mentioned initially, PF30 just means a nylon cup with the same BB30 standard bearing)
best setup if you want to stick with the "stock" setup using BB30 bearings and BB30 crankset
smear a good coat of Loctite bearing retaining compound when pressing new bearings into the plastic PF30 cups.
Then smear a good coat of Loctite bearing retaining compound on the outside of the PF30 cups. Press the cup/bearing into the frame using Park or similar press tool.
When installing the cranks, use Shimano anti-seize quite liberally. Smear a good layer on the outside face of the bearing package before installing the spacers, and also on the inside diameter of the BB30 bearing where the metal crank axle sits
the anti-seize will prevent water ingress and stop any creaking from metal-on-metal contact, its very tenacious even when regularly washing the bike
Make sure the pre-load is setup correct (either using the nylon shims or on newer systems, the pre-load ring and pinch bolt)
If moving to a HT2 adapter for PF30 / BB30 I'd recommend Wheels Manufacturing for mountain bikes as their delrin (plastic) adapters tend to be less noisy than the machined aluminium-alloy adapters Specialized supply with their frames / bikes
