Been a proper windy night last night and still going - how are the trails looking?

I'm hoping none are as bad as after Arwen...just heard on radio this is Storm Malik. I really need to expand my horizons and pay more attention to more things.

I'm ment to be going to Hamsterley for the first time tomorrow. I hope they're clear.
The wind speed's ment to drop tomorrow morning but I'm a bit worried about having the bike on the roof bars in a 30mph Cross wind.

Yesterday (pre strong winds) I rode a trail in Blairadam woods and there were quite a few trees down - I’d ridden it last Sunday and it was clear. Stopped for a bit to get round them then heard a fairly ominous weird whiny sound. I think loads of trees are really weak from Arwen and reckon loads will be down from Malik.

In north east fife here and it was really bad at 6-8am. We only lost a couple of glass panes from the greenhouse in Arwen but this morning we’ve lost a couple of roof slates and loads more garden paraphernalia blown around than we had in Arwen. I think Pitmedden will have loads more trees down sadly

We are out in the Peak in the camper. It started getting bad around midnight. Some of the gusts are very strong. Going to walk this morning and ride later on. Hard to pick a route that doesn't have exposed places.

north east fife

commiserations. (as a north east fifer i can say that).

I was going to attempt a gypsey glen short loop investigation today but it was well gusty. then i thought it had died down so i looked outside and it hadn't so much died down as just grown to be one long continuous guts. ITs not a time for hills or trees today so i will clean my bike for the first time in years.

I meant north west fife. Basically Pitmedden. I like it here! 😂

just heard on radio this is Storm Malik.

It's only Storm Malik if you live in Denmark. It wasn't important enough to be named by the UK Met Office 😂

Glenlivet is closed for the weekend so that they can assess damage.

Trees down on roads in the area too.

150mph gusts on Cairngorm this morning and I was woken a couple of times through the night by gusts hitting the house. Also - 2 out of 3 on The Wheely Bin scale😉

Supposed to be doing the Drops and Jumps course at GT tomorrow morning, hopefully there won’t be too much damage and the roads will be cleared of fallen trees (and stray trampolines)!

Probably full of those small sticks nature has specially designed so when you roll over one it lifts upwards to catch in the spokes.

I've just abandoned a journey South to see family. 2 hours in a car stationary yet rocking in the gusts, thankful I was upwind of the HGV's, a few of which the drivers had got out of in fear of them blowing over.

I'm not riding today.

Took the dog for a walk this morning (central Fife) and saw 2 trees blown over in front of me within 5 mins. Huge cracking sound as one large tree was snapped in two. We just wandered around the grounds of a house rather than our normal woodland route.

Saw some guy on a road bike aboslutely tanking it on the coast road, Strava KOM hunting my guess. He couldn't keep it in a straight line mind and I don't fancy the return leg headwind.

The Danish metoffice were first to name it as it's going to smash into Denmark.

Naming conventions are a mess as the storms do not stop at national boundaries 🤦

The UK, Ireland and Netherlands are using the same naming convention.  Metéo France have joined the Spanish (AEMET) but in central Europe the Free Uni of Berlin (FUB) tend to name them.

This storm is exhibiting a similar track to Arwen but will re-intensify over the North Sea. Be careful out there!!

We have just walked the ridge from Hollins Cross down to Hope via Loosehill. The gusts are horrendous. Both me and the dog had a flying experience which resulted in me landing and rolling in sludge.
This afternoons birthday bike ride is on hold. 😪

We had to turn around today. Trees down on the forest road so access blocked (this was the grove entrance)

Supposed to be calmer in the morning but It'll be a mess up there I bet. Was taking a battering.

Maybe have alternate plans.

Abandoned Farmer John's this morning, too windy for the jumps, I ended up off piste in the car park...

Gisburn tomorrow, hopefully not quite as bad as this morning...

in a 30mph Cross wind.

That’s probably underestimating it a bit - we and a few of our neighbours (near Durham) have lost garden fences etc. There were also overturned lorries on the A1 north of Scotch Corner this morning.
