Basically, I'm going to be in the dog house with either purchase. So, £2350 on the AM9 with XTR, better brakes and shocks and Reverb, or £1650 for AM7 for XT and an extra £170 for reverb.

If your money, and either way, your going to get a kick in from the misses. The red pill (am 7) or the blue pill (am 9)

Red pill but wave the blue won in the misses face as defence!

Given the criteria and the beating is gonna happen anyway, its the AM9. You regret not doing so otherwise.

Blue pill.

Easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission (or something like that) 🙂

Sorry, forgot to answer in the spirit of STW...

Green pill.

I've heard blue pills are completely unsuitable for riding on bridleways.

I guess if you're like me and like to change components for new bling or like to make your bike your own then go for the 7 but if you think you'll upgrade only when parts wear out then go for the 9.

I've just received my XC8.0 and it's a cracking looking bike, maiden ride tomorrow!!

If you're up for beating, at least buy something that'll be worth a beating - so neither as I'm sure you'd really like something better.

AM 7 in Mamba green ordered with reverb upgrade. May change the brakes to XT at a later date, but coming with cable controlled disks, a bit of old rope would do. Now have a bit more cash for pedals, pads and shorts etc. Plus I can push a bit of cash (upgrade sound system) onto the VW transporter for the day trips.... sweeeeeeeeeeeeeett.

I'm confused - cable controlled disks? Do you mean YOU were coming FROM cable controlled disks?

Nice bike.
