Do you have to be accredited to something to declare your event a World Championship or can anyone do it?

Depends in the discipline, the UCI have all the biggies sewn up in Cycling. Although there seemed to be lots of different events declaring themselves "24hr World Champs" a while ago.

If it's pikelet flipping you might be on safer ground.

What do you have in mind ?? Is this the start of your ruthless astro-turf approach to viral marketing ??

Will it be BC registered ? Try asking them if you can declare it the world champs. There must be a form for that somewhere. Are you anticipating a large contingent of international riders ?

Although, 2 hours is really quite close to olympic distance, the Scottish XC Champs last week I think the winner was over two hours.

You could call the CX "Ultra Cross" or something as it's double the normal time. Or "Uber Cross" appeal to the German market.

Don't let common sense get in the way of a silly idea. British Cycling are involved and we have a meeting with them shortly. I will ask. ๐Ÿ˜€

The trophy will be edible* BTW.

*Probably.

I'd worked out what it was ๐Ÿ™„

I can imagine it being a bit tricky to get past the council on the risk assessment.
