I have a few days off work end of this month, a pass from the Mrs, and a mate with the same. We'd planned to go to Portugal, but for various reasons, that trip is off, so I'm trying to figure out somewhere to go.

Ideally, we'd fly out on a Friday, back on a Monday, with two really good days all mountain riding on Saturday and Sunday in between. Would be nice if it was warm, cheap, and involved minimal travelling other than the flights.

Any suggestions?

Taking bikes or renting at destination?
Spain or Canary Islands?

Luchon is nice. I think the lift runs at weekends most of the year. Lots of other riding away from the lift. Two hour drive from Toulouse which is quite easy to get cheap flights to. Weather should be better than here but it is proper mountains so you take your chances.

SwitchBacks was the original plan, they're booked. Then Portugal, which fell apart.

Chamonix now a possibility.

Just got back from Bourg St Maurice. Had a wonderful time. Its a good alpine town that doesn't get dead in the summer, probably a fair bit cheaper than Cham too. Stayed at The Loft Hostel, highly recommended, very welcome and good bike facilities. There's quite a lot of brits there too who would probably be happy to show you the local trails! Enjoy!
