dont try fitting new pads with the calipers still attached to the bike
back off the pad contact adjuster and make sure the pistons are fully retracted before you remove the old pads
the pistons are fragile resin things now!!

Eh? Leave them on the frame! Just back off the pistons off with the wheel out and the old pads still in place, undo the pin and slide them out from the top, bash the new ones in and put the pin and retaining clip in. JD.

The pistons have been phenolic resin ones for about 6 or 7 years now!

There's a hope youtube guide that details how to centralise the pistons aswell, so the pads wear more evenly. might be worth a looksie!

bedding in - get 'em good and hot. drag 'em down a hill. do loads of crash stops , whatever - just get em nice and hot

Edit
I would use the old pads to push the pistons back - wheel out is maybe easier than calliper off the frame

Just changed'em (rear) and to be honest it still needs a pump or two before they bite where i like them! Fiddled with the BPC but it still gets firm after a few pumps...

sounds like yo got air in them then. an annual bleed is always a good idea with brakes - takes 5 mins.
