I'm maybe over complicating this but...
I have a recently purchased Hope Tech 3 lever and a recently purchased Saint 10 speed SL-M820-B-I shifter for the right hand side.
I did my research and looked at the Hope mount chart here
and it says it'll fit straight on no adapters just need "for I-Spec B type shifter use M5x16 cap screw and HBSP322 square nut for fitting" which I duly bought.
Now I have said items I can't fathom what the square nut is for, you can basically put the brake lever and shifter together and the two mate, you can then put M5x16 screw through the shifter and it screws directly into the Hopes bar band.
You can do it up tight and it seems pretty solid without the screw poking into where the bar would be.
Is that correct and wtf is the square nut for?
The hope brake has nothing square for it to fit into and nor does the shifter.
Does this help?
The nut goes inside the lever side of the clamp.
The square nut is only needed on the early tech3s, the ones with the holes on the lever blade's rather than dimples.
The newer ones are threaded and ispec a or b fit with just the bolt
Well, you learn something new everyday, you'd think Hope or the bike media would mention improvements and changes.
When did this happen.
Yeah I did come across that video and was like where's my recessed square bit...
I know it's only a few quid but it would be nice for the tech doc to say version whatever doesn't need the square nut etc.
