Has anybody got any tips for getting this %$&#£%& #@£%$&^ heap of #$%£ off my forks whilst causing the least amount of damage to the forks themselves????
I really couldn't care less about the state the Hope crown ends up in.
Thanks in advance.
Not helpful but i always cut a slot in mine first as there an absolute B*****D to get off.
Boiling water usually does the trick then tap a stanley blade underneath(right round) to get it started.More boiling water and a small screwdriver.
A few taps form underneath, using a flat head screwdriver or similar?
Always find them easy to remove.
Oooooooohhhhhhhh George, it's had much much more than a few taps from underneath my friend. Already snapped one screwdriver.
Already tried the hot water trick Rob. The steerer got hotter than the crown, even though I tried to protect it with a tea towel in plastic bag.
Any other ideas??
If your careful get the hacksaw out then crack the last bit off near the steerer with a big flathead and a pair of mole grips. It's only ally.. 😀
Got it off!!!
Used a mini grinder to get most of the way through, then the broken end of a hack saw blade to get almost all of the way through. A screwdriver levering in the cut bent it enough to come off.
Huge thanks for the hacksaw blade suggestion Rob, probably saved me at least an hour of swearing and struggling.
Ironically with a slot ground out of it the crown now works really well. Shame the geniuses at Hope couldn't figure that out!
No worries psycorp. That's why i cut mine first as there made out of self shrinking ally. 😆
Weird why they use split races for everything else except these where it is most needed.
Don't worry iv'e been there and got several tee shirts..
