Just wondering whether this is simple job (apart from the obvious trouble caused by pawl springs getting lost under the fridge...)
Easy yes, cheap, not really.
£50-60 for the freehub. Ideally you want the seal driver which is about £15-20 i think i paid.
Gah...that's plan a out the window...
The end cap might (or not) be freehub specific ? Worth checking.
If you sell the existing HG freehub it should go some way to covering it.
For the seal, a little looob and a ball ended appropriate allen key will pop it in. Its obvious when its in correctly and very obvious when its not.
The driver can be had much cheaper than new. I think there was one in the classifieds the other day for £40ish brand new. Iirc the drive side end cap is driver specific (different length) so if you get one from someone get that as well. The pawls don't normally go flying around and while the seal tool makes seating the seal easy it is completely possible by hand. You could probably find a plastic pipe offcut that would do it just as well as the proper tool.
Remember as long as the bearings are good you can offset the sale of your Shimano one for similar to the XD parts cost.
It is if you want to buy my XD Drive ( never used) off a Hope Pro Hub 4). Happy with 40 GBP plus postage
If you need a Hope seal driver, you can a pack of 5 for less than £4

I have the seal driver but never end up using it. You can carefully ease the seal back into place with any pokey tool.
I have a new XD driver for sale on the classifieds
whoops might be sold now, sorry
Instead of purchasing the Hope freehub seal tool, I used the funnel from my Aeropress as that was a perfect fit, everyone on STW has one of those.
