You can just buy the springs, which are a load cheaper. Generally the pawls last a lot longer. Cleaning up and re-lubing sparingly will restore your click, yes. Good video on the Hope web site if you need it.

Yeah, just buy a set of springs. £2.75 at Merlin
The pawls do wear out but only after 3-4 years at normal usage

I currently have one spring replaced with a carefully trimmed zip-tie.

I was servicing my xc rear in the summer and managed to drop a spring on the floor in the garage.. never to be seen again..
Ordered some new springs no problem, but it was mail order and I wanted to ride that day.. started looking for a substitute spring and having taken a pen to bits (with the clicker type top) fitted the spring from it into the hub.. worked perfectly! ... snapped on the 2nd ride though.. you just don't get the quality with a BIC nowadays!

I read the new springs are not as springly to reduce drag and noise, anyone know if this is infact true ?

How about that last bastion of the cyclist these days, your LBS? Most stock Hope stuff, and mine only charged a couple of quid for some springs. Wheel in bits, popped down to the shop, came home, fitted, job done PDQ for peanuts.

Trying a real high street shop first is slightly radical I know 🙄
