I think I'm going to need to replace my XT bottom bracket soon and was thinking Hope (steel or ceramic) or Chris King but discounted Chris King really due to the price of the bracket and the tool needed to make it worthwhile. I then read about the Pace one with grease port.

Any thought, particular re the Pace one?

i've had 2 x pace bb's, killed the first one with a winter of ss riding and over tightening the pre load cap, the second one is going much better, 2 x 12hr races and many hours of training on my ss & still lovely and smooth, just needs to be regularly greasing with the tool jobby and careful settup

Go with the Chris King. I've had mine three years and no sign of grinding or slack. The tool is the same as the one you need for your XT so no issues there. Prior to the CK I was replacing my BB at least once a year. It's worth the extra cost.

Hmmmm, I was tempted by Chris King but thought the Pace might be a decent alternative with a similar greasing facility. I meant the cost of the greasing tool on top, not the wrench but I wasn't absolutely certain the standard one would be ok so thanks anyway.

I've had a hope ceramic before on my old bike but didn't really have it long enough to form a proper opinion (I sold the frame and the BB was team green which doesn't go with the new frame orange so I sold it on). The purging grease idea seems a good one.

Who has the best deal on Chris King? and Pace for that matter.
