I have read a few people say that they have this combination? Thinking of putting an m4 calliper on the front, but worried about the different feel I would get from the brakes.
I assume that the volume of fluid in the m4 calliper would be greater, and therefore the pistons would move a smaller distance for a given amount of lever travel.

Been running an M4 front, X2 rear on the front od my XC bike for almost 3 years now. Great combo. Absolutely no difference in feel.
The 4 small M4 pistons are the same surface area as the 2 bigger X2 ones (and I think the same as the V2s). Actual fluid volume is irrelevant feel wise. The difference in braking power comes from the increased area of pad in contact with rotor.
I used to do this. Only issue is keeping two sets of brake pads in reserve.
